The hosts of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; were at their wits&#8217; end on Monday as they discussed the Republican-led Continuing Resolution that passed on Friday, ensuring that the federal government would be funded until September, complaining that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had some explaining to do.
Cohost Whoopi Goldberg led the charge, saying that she planned to have a heart-to-heart with Schumer when he comes to the set for a Tuesday appearance on the midday talk show.
&#8220;So Senator Schumer is going to be here tomorrow, so we&#8217;ll have – yeah — so we&#8217;ll have a lot to talk about,&#8221; Goldberg said, prompting a few laughs from the audience.

Cohost Sara Haines defended Schumer, arguing that allowing the government to shut down would likely have ultimately hurt Democrats.
&#8220;I think that he had two awful options, and this was the one that he chose, and I actually agree. A government shutdown never looks good on the party that seems to be the one that&#8217;s asking for it,&#8221; Haines said, adding that by allowing a shutdown and inviting that criticism, Democrats would be &#8220;taking the target off their back, Trump and Elon Musk, and putting it all on the Democrats&#8221; instead.

Cohost Ana Navarro objected immediately, telling Haines, &#8220;I love you but I don&#8217;t buy that explanation from you.&#8221;
&#8220;This is just take off all the guardrails and let them do whatever the hell they want,&#8221; Haines said.
&#8220;I think that when the Democratic base is hearing Chuck Schumer say, &#8216;The reason that I&#8217;m going to support this funding bill is because if not it&#8217;s going to give Trump and Elon the power to fire federal workers and to get rid of departments,&#8221; Navarro said, adding, &#8220;They&#8217;re already doing that! So it&#8217;s, like, me saying, okay, you know what? I&#8217;m going to get out of the shower but I&#8217;m not going to go outside and stand in the rain because I&#8217;m already wet. They&#8217;re already soaking wet! They&#8217;re already fired!&#8221;
&#8220;Okay so you don&#8217;t care about —&#8221; Haines objected.
&#8220;It doesn&#8217;t matter what I care about it&#8217;s already happening!&#8221; Navarro shot back.
Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin also said it was wise for Schumer to prevent a government shutdown, but argued that the Democrats&#8217; messaging had not been the best.

Cohost Sunny Hostin sided with Navarro, adding, &#8220;I think what you fight on matters too, and I think, again, that this was a fight that needed to happen, and it didn&#8217;t happen because of Chuck Schumer. If you think about it, Republicans would have had to own that government shutdown.&#8221;
Hostin claimed that because Republicans have slim majorities in the House and the Senate — even though it was only Democrats who could have forced or prevented a shutdown — they would have shouldered the blame for any ensuing shutdown.
