<p>Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino choked up during Monday&#8217;s broadcast of his eponymous show as he announced his plan to leave radio and podcasting behind and return to law enforcement.</p>
<p>Bongino, who served in the New York Police Department before taking a role in the United States Secret Service, said that he was accepting the job offered to him by President Donald Trump: Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.</p>
<p>The radio and podcast host began Monday&#8217;s show by asking a simple question, knowing that his entire audience was likely already aware that he&#8217;d been named to the FBI&#8217;s number two spot: &#8220;All right. How do you start today&#8217;s show?&#8221;</p>

<p>Bongino referenced a &#8220;man card&#8221; that someone had once given him, offering to turn it in temporarily because he expected the topic of his show would result in him getting emotional — and he was right.</p>
<p>&#8220;I got a call from the president, and he couldn&#8217;t have been nicer,&#8221; Bongino said. &#8220;Obviously I&#8217;ll keep the contents between us but I think you get the gist of what it was about &#8230; this is now real.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The president, Attorney General Bondi, and now Director — gosh, that sounds good to say — FBI Director Kash Patel offered this role, a role I expressed an interest in, and ladies and gentlemen &#8230;&#8221; Bongino choked up then, saying that he&#8217;d warned the audience it was going to happen. &#8220;I&#8217;m going to accept the role, proudly, as the deputy director, the number two spot at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Folks, it&#8217;s a lot to walk away from,&#8221; he continued, saying that he had big plans for what would happen with his show and would share what he could as time passed. &#8220;I love you guys, and Bongino Army out there, I hope you understand, I got a couple of negative comments you know, &#8216;Dan, you should have let us know.&#8217; I hope you understand &#8230; you do not ever get ahead of the President of the United States.&#8221;</p>
