Israeli forces killed the commander of the Central Brigade of Hamas’s al-Qassam Brigades in an airstrike on Tuesday.

Ayman Nofal, “Abu Ahmed,” — “one of the most dominant figures in the terrorist organization” — was taken out in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and reported by The Jerusalem Post. The al-Qassam Brigades also confirmed the terrorist leader’s death, according to the Associated Press.

“We just eliminated Ayman Nofal, a senior Hamas operative. Nofal was the Commander of Hamas’ Central Brigade in Gaza and the former Head of Military Intelligence,” the IDF posted along with video footage of the airstrike. “Nofal directed many attacks against Israeli civilians and besides being one of the most dominant figures in the terrorist organization, he was involved in the planning of the abduction of Gilad Shalit. We won’t stop until we eliminate Hamas.”

Nofal oversaw Hamas’ operations in the central section of the Gaza Strip and helped coordinate terror attacks with other Gaza-based radical Islamic groups. He is considered to be the most high-profile Hamas terrorist killed since Israel responded to Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack.

Last week, the IDF said that Ali Qadi, another Hamas commander, had been “eliminated” by Israeli aircraft using intelligence gathered by the Military Intelligence Directorate, according to the Jerusalem Post. Qadi, the command of Hamas’ “Nakba Force,” led the terrorists as they invaded Israel earlier this month and murdered Israelis, even targeting children and infants.

“Ali Qadi led the inhumane, barbaric October 7 massacre of civilians in Israel. We just eliminated him. All Hamas terrorists will meet the same fate,” the IDF said in a statement posted to X.

Israel has responded to Hamas’ attack with around-the-clock bombing of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip as the Israeli military has told civilians in Gaza to flee. The civilians, however, have been prevented by Hamas from leaving the territory, and the terrorists are known for using innocent civilians — even young children and babies — as shields. Hamas also kidnapped nearly 200 people, including Israelis and Americans, and is now holding them hostage in the Gaza Strip.
