An Islamic man who was arrested last week at a New Mexico compound where 11 children were abused was training the children to commit school shootings, according to newly-released court documents.
The court filings say that “Siraj Ibn Wahhaj was conducting weapons training with assault rifles at the compound near the Colorado border where 11 hungry children were found in filthy conditions,” the Associated Press reported.
Fox News notes that Wahhaj’s father, Brooklyn imam Siraj Wahhaj, “was named by prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.”
In addition to Wahhaj, 40, four other adults who were living at the compound were arrested, including Lucas Morton, 40; Jany Leveille, 35; Hujrah Wahhaj, 38; and Subhanah Wahhaj, 35.
Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said that suspects were “most likely heavily armed and considered extremist of the Muslim belief.”
The arrested adults were charged with 11 felony counts of child abuse for keeping the young children, ages 1 to 15, in filthy living conditions at a compound that was literally made out of trash.
The AP adds that prosecutors did not bring up the allegation during the initial court appearance of the suspected child abusers.
