Responding to a clip of President Donald Trump saying he wished him well, Elon Musk posted a heart emoji, hinting that their public feud could be dissipating and better things might lie ahead.

Reporters tried to bait Trump into attacking Musk, but he refused to take the bait. Instead, he took the high road and spoke well of his former senior advisor.

“Are you gonna get rid of the Tesla and the Starlink service that you have here at the White House?” a reporter asked.

“No, I haven’t heard that,” Trump replied. “I mean, I may move the Tesla around a little bit — I don’t think we are going to be doing that. With Starlink, it’s a good service.”

The reporter then threw a softball that Trump swatted with a comedic answer, asking, “Where you gonna move it to? Move it around, what do you mean?”

“I have a lot of locations. I’ve got so many locations that I don’t know what to do with them all,” Trump quipped.

Another reporter asked Trump about a reported fight between Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, asking, “Did you ever see Elon Musk get physical with the Treasury Secretary?”

“No, I didn’t. They did have an argument, but I didn’t see a lot of physicality there,” Trump responded, before turning away another question about reported drug use by Musk.

“There was this New York Times report that he did not want to talk about — Elon Musk — that alleged that he, towards the end of his time in the White House, was blurring the lines between recreational use of drugs and medicinal. Do you think he ever had drugs here at the White House?” the reporter pressed.

Trump decided to quit fencing and cut to the heart of the matter: “I really don’t know; I don’t think so. I hope not. Look, I wish him well; you understand. We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well. Very well, actually.”

Trump’s refusal to rip Musk apparently moved Musk enough that he signaled his gratitude with a heart emoji.

The Trump-Musk feud started after Trump withdrew his nomination of Jared Isaacman, a Musk ally, to be the next Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on May 31. On June 3, Musk ripped Trump’s budget bill, calling it “a disgusting abomination.”

On June 5, Trump responded, “I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here. Better than you people. He knew everything about it. He had no problem with it. Then, all of a sudden, he had a problem,” adding, “I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.” I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.”

“I’ve always liked Elon and I was very surprised. You saw the words he had for me. And he hasn’t said anything about me that’s bad. I would rather have him criticize me than the bill. The bill is incredible,” Trump also stated.

The same day, Musk posted on X, “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?”

Trump said that day, “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” He added, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”

Musk reacted by calling Trump’s posts “an obvious lie,” adding, “So sad.” Musk responded to Trump’s threat to end the government contracts with SpaceX, writing, “This just gets better and better. Go ahead, make my day.”

Musk later accused Trump of being named in the Jeffrey Epstein files and wrote, “In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.”

But as harsh as their rhetoric has been toward each other, it seems both men might be willing to make amends.
