An Iranian man attempting to set an Israeli flag on fire accidentally set himself on fire last week.
Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad reported Sunday that the man was likely part of the Islamic Republic, noting that “ordinary Iranians increasingly refuse to burn or walk on Israeli and American flags.”
“Authorities in the Islamic Republic attempted to burn the Israeli flag, as they usually do,” Alinejad posted (video below). “But this time, karma got them and they ended up burning themselves. Meanwhile unlike the regime, ordinary Iranians increasingly refuse to burn or walk on Israeli and American flags.”
The anti-Israeli and anti-American protesting was part of the “Quds Day” demonstrations.
According to The Times of Israel, Iranian dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei “called Israel ‘not a country, but a terrorist base’ and said its downfall was imminent,” marking the annual al-Quds Day on Friday:
“Israel is not a country, but a terrorist base against the nation of Palestine and other Muslim nations,” Khamenei said in live televised remarks.
“Fighting this despotic regime… is everyone’s duty,” Khamenei said.
Khamenei also stressed that “the decline of the enemy Zionist regime has begun and will not stop.”
“Despite virus restrictions, a number of people came out ‘spontaneously’ in the capital Tehran, state TV said, showing the usual burning of flags and chants of ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel,'” the report added.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif on Wednesday said Israel was “an apartheid regime.”
“Palestine is a yardstick for justice. Few measure up. But Iran has proudly stood with Palestinian people — who resist the brutality of an apartheid regime #QudsDay is yearly reminder of moral imperative of global solidarity for Palestine,” Zarif wrote via Twitter.
As reported by The Daily Wire, Jerusalem came under attack on Monday as Hamas launched rockets into the city. The targeting happened on Yom Yerushalayim Day, which “celebrates the Jews taking Jerusalem back in the 1967 Six-Day War. It commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City, where the Temple Mount is located.”
“A fire broke out on the Temple Mount near the Al Aqsa Mosque,” The Daily Wire added. “The Temple Mount is the site of the two ancient Temples of Israel and the current site of the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. The fire was apparently started by fireworks.”
Playing into the chaos, a Palestinian Authority (PA) election was canceled in recent weeks after it “became clear to PA President Mahmoud Abbas that he would lose control to Hamas,” The Daily Wire noted. Blaming Israel, Abbas said, “We have decided to postpone the election until the participation of our people in Jerusalem is guaranteed.”
The Associated Press reported: “The last elections, held in 2006 with international support and Israeli cooperation, saw Hamas win a landslide victory after campaigning as a scrappy underdog untainted by corruption. That sparked an internal crisis culminating in Hamas’ seizure of Gaza the following year, which confined Abbas’ authority to parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Hamas’ popularity has fallen in the years since, as conditions in Gaza have steadily deteriorated.”
