The Obama administration is a laughing stock.
Today, it emerged that Iran has trailed American Navy vessels in the Persian Gulf. The Iranian ship came within 200 yards of the American vessels, which fired a warning shot. This is the second time this week that the Iranians have threatened American ships. Earlier this week, four Iranian boats “harassed” the USS Nitze in the Strait of Hormuz. The Americans in that case fired warning flares and sounded the horn to warn the Iranians, but also changed course to avoid hitting the Iranians.
The Iranians are laughing at America.
They’ve been laughing ever since Barack Obama decided it was imperative to turn Iran from a global outcast into a regional counterweight to Egypt and Israel and Turkey. Obama wanted a deal with the Iranians long before the ascension of Hassan Rouhani to the presidency; he was willing to deal with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which is why in his first year in office he undercut the Green Revolution and did nothing as the government shot dissidents in the streets.
And Obama has deployed his State Department to play defense for the Iranian regime, no matter what sorts of nightmarish activity the Iranians choose. When the Iranians essentially kidnapped 10 Navy sailors in January, the Obama administration thanked them – up until the point that picctures emerged of the Iranians forcing the Americans to their knees. Despite German intelligence reports that the Iranians are pursuing a military nuclear program, the Americans keep declaring that the Iranians are abiding by nuclear agreements. The White House has nothing to say when the Iranians test-fire long-range missiles. Obama ships $400 million to the Iranians in cash as a ransom for American hostages – and then admits that the money may go for use by terrorists. But no big deal, of course.
Meanwhile, Iran has 100,000 forces working in Iraq, Hezbollah dominating Lebanon, and Hamas threatening Israel from the Gaza Strip.
And Obama is hamstringing American forces because he must be seen as a grand and glorious negotiators.
Hillary’s likely to pursue the same policy. She helped craft the Iran policy. She doesn’t want conflict with the Iranians. So she’ll continue to slow-walk the Iranian nuclear program, embolden Vladimir Putin in Syria, and generally surrender the region to Iranian-fostered chaos.
