The Islamic Republic of Iran launched a drone attack against Israel on Saturday in response to Israel killing a top Iranian general who allegedly played a key role in Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack.
“Iran launched an attack against Israel by launching drones, four American and Israeli sources told me,” said Walla correspondent Barak Ravid.
Israeli officials said that it will take several hours before the drones are able to reach Israel, and given the defensive assets that Israel and the United States have deployed, there is a strong likelihood that most, if not all, drones will be shot down.
U.S. officials originally estimated that 50-75 one-way suicide drones were launched, but that number now appears to be well over 100 as officials believe that a combination of 400-500 drones and missiles are being launched at Israel from several countries where Iran has terrorist proxy groups. The majority of the munitions are being launched directly from Iranian soil.

The attack could become significantly harder to defend if Iran also launches cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. While it could take roughly eight hours for the drones to reach Israel, it would only take cruise missiles 2 hours, and ballistic missiles would arrive in just several minutes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured Israeli citizens that the country was prepared for the attack.
“Our defensive systems are spread out, we are ready for all scenarios, whether defensive or offensive,” he said. “Israel is strong. …We appreciate the U.S. standing with Israel. …Whoever hurts us, we will hurt them. We will defend ourselves from every threat dispassionately and decisively.”
