Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is asking the court for leniency so he can deal with his rotting molars.
The 70-year-old former Hollywood producer pleaded with a judge on Wednesday to let him visit a private dentist to take care of his painful problem rather than having the teeth removed by the dentist at the jail, according to The New York Post.
“This situation is an emergency,” Weinstein said in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday. “I will pay for the dentist … it will be one trip and one trip only.”
Weinstein is currently serving 23 years after being found guilty of two charges including criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree in 2020. He was acquitted on three additional charges. The former producer is still facing additional charges of rape and other sex crimes related to accusations from five women in L.A. County and is expected to stand trial again in October. He is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
The judge noted how the former producer had already been to see the prison dentist, but Weinstein’s lawyer argued that Weinstein was seeking treatment beyond just pulling out the teeth or continuing to let them rot, which is what was offered there.
“I’m in pain every day. I have cavities and I can’t eat because I’m missing teeth,” the former Hollywood executive explained. Weinstein said he wants a bridge or dental implants so he can appear “presentable” in the future, especially during his appeal.
Weinstein’s lawyer Mark Werksman said his client would look “ridiculous” and “like a caricature” if the molars were removed and not replaced.
Weinstein was just granted an appeal for the prior conviction in New York, which is another reason he’s trying to get his teeth fixed to look presentable in court.
“I am so grateful to my attorneys for working hard and smart on this,” Weinstein said in a statement to ABC News after getting his appeal granted, per The Daily Wire. “Their hard work will help me prove my innocence in the end. I look forward to this opportunity to be heard by The New York Court of Appeals.”
In March, Weinstein described himself as a “model inmate” after getting caught with Milk Duds in his jail cell.
“This was an innocent misunderstanding.” he said of having the contraband candy. “It will not happen again. I have been a model inmate, following the rules and regulations and I am sincerely sorry.”
