California Governor Gavin Newsom&#8217;s wife has made a lot of news lately for staking out far-left cultural positions, but she wasn&#8217;t raised to be a bay area hippie.
In the span of a week, Jennifer Siebel Newsom has gone viral for saying she gives her sons dolls and suggesting criminals at San Quentin prison might be there for “accidents,” like her tragically backing over her sister with a golf cart. 
But the First Lady of California grew up in a conservative household, and her husband has previously claimed to be married to a Republican. 
“I grew up revering Ronald Reagan … my father did, so therefore we did,” she said. She added that even though her dad has always been “the biggest champion of women, especially marginalized and vulnerable women” that &#8220;unfortunately his politics led him in a direction that is sort of in conflict with seeing women as equal.”

Newsom grew up in an affluent neighborhood of California, ultimately attending Stanford University for both undergrad and graduate school. After school she moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in acting. During her film career, Siebel Newsom claims she was raped by popular film director Harvey Weinstein. She said Weinstein first approached her at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2005 when she was a producer and actress, and he was at the height of his Hollywood power. 
She said meeting him was like “the Red Sea was parting” and she found him “charming.&#8221; He invited her to his hotel, and she said she was nervous when directed to his hotel suite. When pressed about why she didn’t walk away she said, “Because you don’t say no to Harvey Weinstein.” 
Gavin Newsom later accepted campaign funds from Harvey Weinstein, which his wife called &#8220;complex.&#8221;
Newsom met her husband in 2006 when Gavin was serving as the mayor of San Francisco, and married two years later. In 2011, Siebel Newsom produced a documentary called &#8220;Miss Representation,&#8221; which is about sexism in American society. 
Despite her militant feminism, Gavin Newsom told a reporter in 2024 that he meets with Republicans every day because he &#8220;married one.&#8221;

Harvey Weinstein was back in a Manhattan courtroom on Thursday morning to assess where he stands in his legal battles as another trial looms on charges of third-degree rape.
The charge stems from an allegation made by Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, who claimed Weinstein raped her at a New York hotel in March 2013. Weinstein has denied that claim.
Weinstein&#8217;s lawyer Arthur Aidala told Judge Curtis Farber that the 73-year-old is considering pleading guilty to that rape charge to avoid another trial, reports <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/harvey-weinstein-considering-guilty-plea-ahead-third-sex-assault-trial-rcna253040">NBC News</a>. The trial would begin on March 3 if Weinstein can&#8217;t reach a plea deal, and Mann would likely testify against the disgraced Hollywood mogul again.
“I understand that your client wants additional time to think about it,” Farber told Weinstein’s lawyer in the courtroom Thursday.
At the end of the hearing, Weinstein, who appeared frail in a wheelchair, spoke directly to the judge, admitting no wrongdoing. “I admit my moral failings, I was unfaithful and acted wrongly,&#8221; Weinstein said. &#8220;But I have never assaulted anyone.&#8221;
Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape of Mann in early 2020, but that ruling was overturned in 2024 by a New York state appeals court. Weinstein was then retried on the same case last year, but the jury failed to reach a verdict.
However, the jury did find Weinstein guilty of a first-degree criminal sexual act based on the claims made by a production assistant on the Weinstein-produced &#8220;Project Runway.&#8221; Miriam Haley said Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in 2006.
The mogul was acquitted of criminal sexual assault against former model Kaja Sokola.
Judge Farber threw out Weinstein&#8217;s request for a new trial in the Haley case after the defense claimed two jurors said they were pressured to convict Weinstein. The judge said, &#8220;The Court&#8217;s response to the jurors&#8217; complaints appropriately balanced the competing interests of investigating the allegations while avoiding any unnecessary taint of the deliberating jury,&#8221; per <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/harvey-weinstein-critical-hearing-grant-new-trial/story?id=129014006">ABC News</a>.
Thursday&#8217;s appearance addressed Weinstein&#8217;s web of cases. Now, he will remain in custody at Rikers Island in New York City as he weighs his options regarding entering a guilty plea to the rape charges involving Mann.

A New York jury on Wednesday delivered a mixed verdict in Harvey Weinstein&#8217;s sexual assault retrial, finding the former Hollywood mogul guilty of one count while acquitting him of another.
The jury found Weinstein guilty of forcibly performing oral sex on former &#8220;Project Runway&#8221; production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006, but acquitted him of criminal sexual assault against former model Kaja Sokola.
They remain deadlocked on third-degree rape charges related to actress Jessica Mann, who testified that Weinstein had raped her in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013.
Since the trial began last week, the jurors have been contentious with one another. The judge even <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/11/nyregion/harvey-weinstein-verdict">ordered</a> them to pause deliberations and “cool down” earlier on Wednesday, per The New York Times.
Justice Curtis Farber was informed in the courtroom that jurors were indeed “yelling and screaming” at each other throughout the day, and that one juror threatened the jury’s foreman, “I’ll see you outside one day.”

Weinstein attempted to capitalize on the situation, arguing to Justice Farber that the jury conflict was grounds for a mistrial.
“This is not right for me, for me the person on trial here,” Weinstein told the judge. “This is my life on the line, and you know what, it’s not fair. It’s simple. It’s not fair.”
“It’s time, it&#8217;s time, it&#8217;s time to say this trial is over,” the former Hollywood mogul <a href="https://apnews.com/article/harvey-weinstein-sexual-assault-trial-31d7a64b75148d1e482f3c020ffea527">said</a>.
Farber denied Weinstein&#8217;s request: “Jurors fight. They act childish at times. They get heated. I’m not going to allow any injustice to happen to you.”
This <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harvey-weinsteins-lawyers-argue-hes-the-one-whos-being-abused-during-retrial">retrial</a> followed the New York State Court of Appeals overturning Weinstein&#8217;s 2020 conviction, which had become a defining case of the #MeToo movement.
&#8220;If this person wasn&#8217;t Harvey Weinstein, would we even be here?&#8221; Weinstein&#8217;s attorney, Arthur Aidala, asked during closing arguments, maintaining the encounters were &#8220;transactional&#8221; and &#8220;consensual.&#8221; On June 5, Weinstein told FOX 5 New York that he acted &#8220;immorally&#8221; but insisted, &#8220;never illegal, never criminal, never anything.&#8221;
Over the past six weeks, three accusers testified: former &#8220;Project Runway&#8221; production assistant Miriam Haley, actress Jessica Mann, and former model Kaja Sokola from Poland. Weinstein, 73, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The partial verdict came as a shock, as Farber had only assembled the jury to formally send them home for the day when the foreman suddenly announced decisions on two of the three charges.
Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on the third charge and will continue deliberating on Thursday.
Regardless of the outcome, the 73-year-old former producer, who has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, will likely return to California, where he&#8217;s serving a 16-year sentence for a separate 2022 rape conviction.
Weinstein’s lawyers <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/jury-harvey-weinstein-sex-assault-retrial-reached-partial-verdict-rcna210599">filed</a> an appeal for his 2022 conviction last year, which is still in process, per NBC.
Judge Farber instructed the jury to continue deliberations on Thursday regarding the remaining charge related to Sokola&#8217;s allegations.

Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer argued during closing statements at his retrial that his client was actually the victim.
The disgraced Hollywood executive, now a convicted sex predator, has been undergoing a new trial in Manhattan since late April. His attorney’s closing statements have been making headlines as he attempts to flip the script.
“They’re using their youth, their beauty, their charm, their charisma to get stuff from him,” defense attorney Arthur Aidala said of the three women who testified against him, per <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/03/us-news/closing-arguments-begin-in-harvey-weinsteins-manhattan-rape-trial/">the New York Post</a>.
“I know it’s going to sound crazy, but he’s the one who’s being abused. He’s the one who’s getting used,” he added.
Aidala went into detail about the Miramax co-founder’s romantic relationships with his accusers, saying the sex was both consensual and “transactional” because they all “wanted to cut the line” to getting famous.
He said the women were upset that their method didn’t work and they never achieved notability. “They’re mad. They’re mad to this day,” Aidala <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/harvey-weinstein-abused-defense-retrial-closing-argument-1236416728/">said</a>.
The attorney next referenced the prosecutor deciding on a retrial. “They needed to get the poster boy, the original sinner for the MeToo movement,” Aidala said. “They tried to do it five years ago, and there was a redo, and they’re trying to do it again.”
The defense attorney said the women’s claims were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. He described his client as a “fat dude” incapable of participating in some of the sexual acts described by their testimonies.
“Some of these descriptions from these women sound like ‘Cirque du Soleil’!” Aidala said.
Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg denied these assertions, saying “it wasn’t about fooling around — it was rape.”
Weinstein is charged with two counts of committing a “criminal sexual act” and one count of third-degree rape by former production assistant Miriam Haley, former model Kaja Sokola, and former aspiring actor Jessica Mann. Weinstein pleaded “not guilty” to all charges.
Once a powerful figure in Hollywood, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York following his 2020 conviction on charges of rape and sexual assault. But in April 2024, the New York Court of Appeals overturned that conviction. The court ruled that testimony from three women should not have been included as their accounts were deemed unfairly prejudicial and most likely helped sway the jury.
Weinstein was also found guilty of rape in a Los Angeles court and sentenced to 16 years in prison for the crime.

A New York City grand jury has <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/harvey-weinstein-indicted-new-charges-new-york-grand-jury-rcna169931">indicted</a> former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused of sexual assault or harassment by at least 80 women, on new charges that reportedly revolve around other cases of sexual harassment.
In 2017, women started coming forward to accuse Weinstein of sexual abuse. Weinstein’s 2020 conviction of third-degree rape of one woman and first-degree criminal sex act of another was overturned in April by an appellate court. But in 2022, Weinstein was found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault, and sentenced to 16 years in prison, a decision that is being appealed by his attorneys.
Earlier this week, Weinstein was transported from Rikers Island jail to Bellevue Hospital for emergency heart surgery.

Weinstein’s Miramax company, which he founded with his brother Bob, produced three films that won the Best Picture Oscar: “The English Patient,” “Shakespeare in Love,” and “Chicago,” as well as the films “Pulp Fiction” and “Good Will Hunting.”
The appellate court that overturned Weinstein’s 2020 conviction wrote, “We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes. The remedy for these egregious errors is a new trial. &#8230; It is an abuse of judicial discretion to permit untested allegations of nothing more than bad behavior that destroys a defendant’s character but sheds no light on their credibility as related to the criminal charges lodged against them.”
After 2017 reports in The New York Times and The New Yorker detailed Weinstein’s alleged sexual harassment of women, Weinstein was dismissed from Miramax, expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and suspended from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. He resigned from the Directors Guild of America.
In what was called the “Weinstein Effect,” after the reports of Weinstein’s alleged sexual harassment became public, many women and some men came forward to speak of being sexually harassed by prominent individuals.

Disgraced movie mogul <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/horrified-oscar-winner-and-other-hollywood-stars-react-to-overturned-weinstein-rape-verdict">Harvey Weinstein</a> has been hospitalized for what his representative called a “myriad of health conditions” as he awaits his next sexual assault trial.
The 72-year-old former Hollywood mogul &#8212; who’s been in prison since a New York jury convicted him of sexual assault, before it was overturned this year &#8212; was taken back to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward where he tested positive for COVID and contracted double pneumonia in his lungs, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/harvey-weinstein-hospitalized-covid-19-double-pneumonia-1235958421/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Hollywood Reporter.
His rep and prison consultant Craig Rothfeld said in a statement that Weinstein was treated for a “myriad of health conditions” that still affect him “on a daily basis such as diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid on his heart and lungs, and various other conditions.”
“We continue to express our gratitude to the officers, doctors and nurses at DOCS, CHS, and NYC H+H who saw to it that Mr. Weinstein was immediately transferred to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward and will continue working hand in hand with them to ensure Mr. Weinstein receives proper medical treatment,” Weinstein’s rep added.

Weinstein has been in prison since a jury convicted him of rape in his New York sexual assault trial. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. However, in April, the New York Court of Appeals overturned <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-appeals-court-tosses-harvey-weinstein-rape-conviction">Weinstein</a>’s rape verdict and a new trial date has been tentatively set for November, the outlet noted.

Following the appeals court announcement, the Silence Breakers, a group of Weinstein survivors, released a statement about the “unjust” decision.
“The news today is not only disheartening, but it’s profoundly unjust,” the <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/harvey-weinstein-accusers-react-conviction-overturned-1235981941/">statemen</a>t read. “But this ruling does not diminish the validity of our experiences or our truth; it’s merely a setback. The man found guilty continues to serve time in a California prison. When survivors everywhere broke their silence in 2017, the world changed. Weinstein was also convicted in 2022 by a jury in Los Angeles of sexual assault. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He has since filed an appeal.

In a second post, the actress wrote, “Harvey Weinstein&#8217;s 2020 rape conviction overturned by New York court of appeals, retrial ordered, dissenting opinions speak volumes,” and included an <a href="https://ew.com/harvey-weinstein-rape-conviction-overturned-new-york-8638799?utm_source=social2&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=shareurlbuttons">Entertainment Weekly</a> article with the voice of one of the dissenting judges, who claimed in her dissent that &#8220;fundamental misunderstandings of sexual violence perpetrated by men known to, and with significant power over, the women they victimize are on full display in the majority’s opinion.&#8221;
“By whitewashing the facts to conform to a he-said/she-said narrative, by ignoring evidence of defendant’s manipulation and premeditation, which clouded issues of intent, and by failing to recognize that the jury was entitled to consider defendant’s previous assaults, this Court has continued a disturbing trend of overturning juries’ guilty verdicts in cases involving sexual violence,” she added.

The man found guilty continues to serve time in a California prison. When survivors everywhere broke their silence in 2017, the world changed. We continue to stand strong and advocate for that change&#8230;&#8221;
Actress Ashley Judd, who was the first to make allegations against Weinstein in 2017, called the news “unfair to survivors,&#8221; the Times noted. “We still live in our truth,” Judd said. “And we know what happened.”
It’s “a terrible reminder that victims of sexual assault just don’t get justice,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/10/us/gwyneth-paltrow-angelina-jolie-harvey-weinstein.html">Katherine Kendall</a>, an actress who made allegations against Weinstein, said. “I’m completely let down by the justice system right now. I’m sort of flabbergasted. But the important thing is that we do not stop speaking out. Our culture needs to keep supporting silence breakers.”
Actress Amber Tamblyn, who also spoke out during the #MeToo movement, called the decision “a loss to the entire community of women who put their lives and careers on the line to speak out.”

A New York appeals court moved on Thursday to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/weinstein-metoo-appeal-ed29faeec862abf0c071e8bd3574c4a3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">overturn</a> the 2020 rape conviction of former Miramax producer Harvey Weinstein, citing “egregious” rulings that allowed allegations unrelated to the charges to be introduced in testimony.
The court’s 4-3 ruling came down in Weinstein’s favor, leaving it up to prosecutors whether or not they will try him again.
“We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes,” the decision read in part. “The remedy for these egregious errors is a new trial.”
“It is an abuse of judicial discretion to permit untested allegations of nothing more than bad behavior that destroys a defendant’s character but sheds no light on their credibility as related to the criminal charges lodged against them,” the decision continued.
The virtual flood of accusations against Weinstein — whose accusers included “Charmed” star Rose McGowan and others — cascaded in 2017 following a New Yorker exposé written by Ronan Farrow. What followed was a slew of additional accusations against Weinstein, which sparked the #MeToo movement.
Judge Madeline Singas penned a dissent on behalf of the minority, saying that the decision meant the court was “whitewashing the facts to conform to a he-said/she-said narrative,” following a “disturbing trend of overturning juries’ guilty verdicts in cases involving sexual violence.”

Weinstein will remain in prison — despite the New York conviction being overturned — because his 2022 <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraced-film-producer-harvey-weinstein-sentenced-to-16-more-years-for-sex-crimes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conviction</a> in Los Angeles still stands.

Disney’s new &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; showrunner Leslye Headland has been raising eyebrows with her latest comments about her upcoming female-centric, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/yet-another-star-wars-show-wants-to-challenge-the-story-this-is-about-power" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sith-focused</a> series.
So, we took a deep dive into her past projects and the comments she’s made over the years to get an idea about the woman described as the &#8220;Queen of Raunch Comedy.&#8221;
<h3>Harvey Weinstein And The Seven Deadly Sins</h3>
Early in her career, Headland worked under disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein as his assistant for <a href="https://tvovermind.com/leslye-headland/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one year</a> during her time at Miramax.
In 2012, Headland said that Weinstein influenced her &#8220;raunchy female comedy&#8221; &#8220;Bachelorette,&#8221; which was first a play and later her debut film, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/bachelorette-harvey-weinstein-leslye-headland-366769/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a> reported. It was part of her Seven Deadly Sins play series, this one dealing with gluttony.
Next, she developed another part of her sins play series called &#8220;Assistance,&#8221; this one dealing with greed, THR <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/bachelorette-harvey-weinstein-leslye-headland-366769/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>. Later, she did &#8220;Cult of Love,&#8221; <a href="https://stagescenela.com/2018/05/cult-of-love/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Stage Scene LA</a> reported, where she takes aim at the sin of pride, &#8220;particularly that of self-proclaimed ‘Christians’ who would counsel praying away the gay, blame a couple’s miscarriage on their godlessness, and refuse antidepressants the better to keep on hearing voices straight from the Big Guy himself,&#8221; the outlet noted.

In 2018, Headland talked to the <a href="https://www.americantheatre.org/2018/05/30/leslye-headland-on-sin-certainty-and-harvey-weinstein/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Theater</a> about her series and the seven deadly sins. &#8220;I think they’re just normal,&#8221; Headland said. &#8220;They’re what comes along with the baggage of being alive and sentient.&#8221;
She also told the <a href="https://www.americantheatre.org/2018/05/30/leslye-headland-on-sin-certainty-and-harvey-weinstein/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Theater</a> in 2018 that she was &#8220;shocked&#8221; Weinstein was taken down and &#8220;so emboldened by the chorus of voices that brought him down.&#8221;
&#8220;When someone is screaming at you, and a whole bunch of grown men are in the same room and don’t do anything, that tells you something right away about what kind of danger you may or may not be in,&#8221; Headland said. &#8220;You’re like, &#8216;Oh, no one is going to stop this person. The only person that is going to make sure I don’t come to harm is me.'&#8221;
<h3>From Plays To Movies</h3>
<a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/leslye-headland-meet-the-new-queen-of-raunch-comedy-59020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rolling Stone</a> magazine took their interview with Headland to a whole new level, naming her &#8220;New Queen of Raunch Comedy&#8221; in 2015 following the release of her raunchcom &#8220;Sleeping With Other People.&#8221;
The film deals with one of Headland’s favorite themes, &#8220;sex addiction,&#8221; <a href="https://tvovermind.com/leslye-headland/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TV Overmind</a> noted. In one scene, actor Jason Sudeikis demonstrated sex acts in explicit detail.
Headland told Rolling Stone that men &#8220;&#8230; have no idea what’s going down there. Just, zero clue. I have a chart of the vagina in my house, and when a male friend saw it, he said, ‘Wow…this just looks like something I’m going to fail at!’ I don’t get the mystery. It’s not a boogeyman.&#8221;

In 2015, <a href="https://www.pastemagazine.com/movies/sleeping-with-other-people" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paste</a> interviewed Headland about the movie and going from plays to the big screen.
&#8220;I meant to make these very important pieces of work, and then everyone was just losing their mind laughing about the whole b***-j** monologue or the bottle scene,&#8221; the new &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; creator said. &#8220;I guess there&#8217;s just something important behind making people laugh about the things that are really, truly painful.&#8221;
She also admitted she’s always been a provocateur since she was young and is still today with her plays, films, and series.
&#8220;I am that provocateur that I was when I was a little kid &#8230; I&#8217;m much more interested in &#8216;What am I not allowed to say? What is the thing that we aren’t talking about in a mainstream space?'&#8221; Headland said. &#8220;And why not?&#8221;
<h3>LGBTQ Infused</h3>
In 2021, Headland talked with <a href="https://www.avclub.com/leslye-headland-s-favorite-star-wars-is-the-star-wars-y-1847118044" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AV Club</a> about LGBTQ representation in films. She said, &#8220;as somebody that is a lesbian, every time I see gay or queer representation in the media, I scream with happiness. There is just nothing like seeing that out in the world.&#8221;
&#8220;To have the power, when you’re creating media, to just put in certain types of people that maybe aren’t necessarily in normal mainstream content or media is just…&#8221; she added. &#8220;I know that for people who don’t identify that way, it doesn’t seem that important, but to us, it’s huge.&#8221;
Basically, if Headland is involved in a project, whether it be on stage, the small or the big screen, it will include LGBTQ references.
<h3>Representation In New &#8220;Star Wars: The Acolyte&#8221;</h3>
In 2021, Headland spoke to the <a href="https://www.advocate.com/film/2021/7/01/lesbian-leslye-headland-brings-queer-lens-star-wars-franchise" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Advocate</a> about having representation on &#8220;The Acolyte,&#8221; series on screen and behind the scenes.
&#8220;You can expect some sort of expression of my own artistic dream and just my voice and what it looks like in that universe, for sure,&#8221; the SW creator said, &#8220;But I also think that representation both on screen and behind the screen, it&#8217;s just so important.&#8221;
She said with her new series she fully &#8220;intends to allow her own personal experiences as a queer woman shine through in the finished product.&#8221;
&#8220;In the same way that the original ‘Star Wars’ film, ‘A New Hope,’ is about a young man living in Modesto, California, who doesn&#8217;t want to take over his dad&#8217;s hardware store,&#8221; Headland said. &#8220;There&#8217;s just no way that me being a queer woman is not going to be reflected in my work. I could try not to do it, but why would I? It just feels like a natural extension of what I do.&#8221;
She also talked about the characters in her stories and made it clear they will all be queer, in some way.
&#8220;I think that because storytelling, at its core, is always going to come down to either the personal or emotional through-line to your characters, your identity is important,&#8221; Headland said. &#8220;And like I said, mine is just going to be in my work, whether I&#8217;m explicitly dealing with it or not, it&#8217;s always going to be there.&#8221;
Speaking to <a href="https://ew.com/tv/the-acolyte-star-wars-leslye-headland-amandla-stenberg-lee-jung-jae/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Entertainment Weekly</a> she also promised that &#8220;Star Wars&#8221; fans will &#8220;see more morally ambiguous characters than you’ve seen in other Star Wars content.&#8221;
LGBTQ representation also includes who she’s hired to work on the new series, <a href="https://www.thepinknews.com/2024/03/20/star-wars-the-acolyte/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PinkNews</a> reported.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-casts-transgender-actor-for-new-star-wars-series-on-streaming-site" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Transgender actor Abigail Thorn</a>, a biological male who identifies as a woman, was hired for the role of Ensign Eurus and Jen Richards is one of the writers.
Not to mention Headland, a lesbian, is helming the series with wife Rebecca Henderson starring in it as a &#8220;Jedi knight prodigy,&#8221; Pink News noted.
Gay, non-binary star, Amandla Stenberg, stars in the show, as does Charlie Barnett, an outspoken gay star, the outlet noted.
Disney has faced a backlash at the box office following its push of LGBTQ representation.
Disney Pixar studio, &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pixars-elemental-with-non-binary-character-flops-at-box-office-with-2nd-worst-opening-in-studio-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elemental,&#8221;</a> included a &#8220;non-binary&#8221; character and the movie had one of the worst openings in the studio’s history, earning $29.5 million at the domestic box office. &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disneys-strange-world-on-track-to-lose-100-million" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Strange World&#8221;</a> involved a same-sex teen romance and was a box office flop for the company.

According to Disney+ &#8220;The Acolyte&#8221; is rated TV-14. <a href="https://boundingintocomics.com/2023/03/16/star-wars-declared-worse-and-woker-than-ever-after-confirmation-of-intimacy-coordinator-hired-for-the-acolyte/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bounding into Comics</a> reported in March 2023, that Headland brought in an intimacy coordinator for part of the show’s production. The outlet reported that the coordinator was used for 8 episodes of the first season.
An intimacy coordinator &#8220;is an advocate, a liaison between actors and production, and a movement coach and/or choreographer in regards to nudity and simulated sex and other intimate and hyper-exposed scenes,&#8221; according to <a href="https://www.sagaftra.org/contracts-industry-resources/workplace-harassment-prevention/intimacy-coordinator-resources" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SAG-AFTRA</a>.
Earlier this month, a <a href="https://x.com/EndWokeness/status/1770167671654396333?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> from the 2023 Star Wars Celebration resurfaced in which Headland said the new series will be like the children’s movie &#8220;Frozen&#8221; which she labeled &#8220;coded queer.&#8221;
Headland talked about watching &#8220;Frozen&#8221; as an adult and was captivated by &#8220;the concept of true love being between two sisters and not a heterosexual relationship. She said it &#8220;inspired&#8221; her to create a similar story that her parents would have allowed her to watch when she was a younger &#8220;queer&#8221; person, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-reacts-to-star-wars-the-acolyte-creator-crazier-than-the-south-park-parody" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.

Headland co-produced a short in 2021 called &#8220;<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11717932/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pink and Blue</a>,&#8221; about &#8220;a Trans couple of color raising their child in a binary world.&#8221; She also directed Netflix’s &#8220;Russian Doll,&#8221; which is filled with references of drugs, sex, and numerous LGBTQ references, <a href="https://www.vulture.com/2019/02/russian-doll-leslye-headland-interview.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vulture</a> noted. Emmy Award-winning English actress Julia Ormond accused <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/harvey-weinstein" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvey Weinstein</a> of sexual battery in a lawsuit filed Wednesday, joining more than 100 women who have alleged patterns of misconduct from the disgraced Hollywood film producer over several decades.
In addition to accusing Weinstein, 71, in the lawsuit filed in the New York Supreme Court, Ormond is also suing The Walt Disney Company, Miramax (now partially owned by Paramount Global), and Creative Arts Agency (CAA), who represented her at the time, for allegedly enabling his behavior.
“Our client has suffered tremendously both personally and professionally due to the assault by Harvey Weinstein, and the failure from Disney, Miramax and CAA to prevent it and to appropriately respond when she reported what happened,” Ormond’s attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor and Effie Blassberger <a href="https://variety.com/2023/film/news/julia-ormond-harvey-weinstein-lawsuit-battery-caa-disney-1235744853/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Variety in a statement. “She feels completely betrayed by CAA for its knowing disregard for her safety and well-being, and looks forward to holding accountable the people and institutions that enabled Harvey Weinstein’s horrific and predatory behavior.”
The two reportedly first met during a business meeting in London in 1994 after Ormond’s U.K. agent told her an “important producer” wanted to discuss the film business and multiple future roles. Over the next year, Weinstein and Ormond developed a “close, but professional, business relationship,” Variety noted. By August of 1995, her agents at CAA worked out a two-year production deal for Ormond and her production company with Weinstein’s company, Miramax, where she worked out of its New York City offices and lived in an apartment paid for by the company.
According to the lawsuit first reported by Variety, Ormond claims Weinstein forced her to give him oral sex after a business dinner in 1995 — around the same time in her career when she landed roles in films as the female lead, including “Legends of the Fall,” “First Night,” and a remake of “Sabrina.”
“At the dinner, Weinstein refused to discuss business matters and kept changing the subject,” the lawsuit states. “Finally, following dinner, Weinstein said he would only discuss the project back at the apartment Miramax had provided for Ormond as part of their first-look deal with her. Her defenses down because she had consumed several drinks, and wanting to finally get to what she thought was the purpose of their meeting, Ormond agreed to have Weinstein come back to her apartment. Soon after, Weinstein stripped naked and forced her to perform oral sex on him.”
The complaint says that the alleged assault could have been prevented if Disney, Miramax, and CAA had protected Ormond. The suit also accused the three entrainment companies of continuing to “handsomely profit from their close association with Harvey Weinstein for many years after Ormond was assaulted by him and then cast aside by Hollywood.”
Ormond apparently told her former agents, Bryan Lourd, now the chief executive of CAA, and Kevin Huvane, now a co-chairman of the agency, about the alleged incident afterward. But the complaint claims the agency did not take any steps to protect her, and informed her that the “going rate” for settlements paid to women who alleged that Weinstein sexually assaulted them was $100,000.

“Rather than take Ormond’s side and advocate for her interest, they suggested that if she reported Weinstein to the authorities, she would not be believed, and he would seriously damage her career,” the lawsuit reads. “Still worse, not long after Weinstein’s assault on Ormond and her reporting of the assault to them, CAA lost interest in representing her, and her career suffered dramatically.”
Ormond, who an Emmy for her supporting role in HBO’s “Temple Grandin,” told Variety she decided to publicly speak out about the alleged assault after nearly 30 years to be a part of the “systemic change” she feels is needed in Hollywood. She filed the lawsuit under the Adult Survivors Act, which creates a window outside the statute of limitations to seek civil damages for sexual battery.
“I am coming forward with my story now publicly because I feel as if we still need systemic change, and I feel that we need accountability from enablers, in order to get there,” Ormond told Variety. “I feel that this is what happened with me.”
Weinstein was originally a kingpin of the entertainment industry and co-founded Miramax. His legend status fell apart in 2017 when more and more women came forward to accuse the producer of sexual misconduct in what would later become the beginning of the #MeToo movement.
More than 100 women have accused Weinstein of various sex crimes. The former entertainment mogul denies the sexual acts were non-consensual and maintains that his accusers sought to advance their positions in the entertainment industry.
Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence in New York following convictions for rape and sexual assault from a 2020 case, which will be consecutively followed by serving another 16-year prison sentence in Los Angeles, making it all but certain that he’ll spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Imran H. Ansari, Weinstein’s attorney, told Variety in a statement that his client “categorically denies the allegations made against him by Julia Ormond and he is prepared to vehemently defend himself.”
“This is yet another example of a complaint filed against Mr. Weinstein after the passing of decades, and he is confident that the evidence will not support Ms. Ormond’s claims,” Ansari said.
CAA, Disney, and Miramax have not issued public statements concerning Ormond’s lawsuit.

The 54-year-old actress spoke to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/style/jennifer-aniston-morning-show-season-3-59413d2f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a> and explained that while she wasn&#8217;t personally harassed by disgraced movie mogul <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraced-movie-mogul-harvey-weinstein-found-guilty-of-rape-in-los-angeles-trial" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvey Weinstein</a>, she doesn&#8217;t put everyone who has done something wrong in the same &#8220;basket.&#8221;
&#8220;I probably just got canceled by saying that,&#8221; Aniston said. &#8220;I just don&#8217;t understand what it means &#8230; Is there no redemption? I don&#8217;t know. I don&#8217;t put everybody in the Harvey Weinstein basket.&#8221;
The &#8220;Friends&#8221; alum went on to recall how Weinstein made people feel nervous and one time she was in her trailer on the set of a movie and he showed up to pitch her something.

&#8220;I remember actually, he came to visit me on a movie to pitch me a movie,&#8221; she added. &#8220;And I do remember consciously having a person stay in my trailer.&#8221;
Weinstein was at the center of the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/toto-hollywood-and-total-collapse-metoo-christian-toto" target="_blank" rel="noopener">#MeToo movement</a> in 2017 after numerous stars accused him of sexual misconduct. He is currently serving 39 years behind bars after being convicted in Los Angeles and New York for rape and sexual assault, <a href="https://variety.com/2023/film/news/jennifer-aniston-cancel-culture-harvey-weinstein-1235701941/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> noted.
The disgraced movie producer told WSJ that the &#8220;Horrible Bosses&#8221; star &#8220;never had any uncomfortable instances with me.&#8221;

An email from Weinstein about Aniston, in which the convicted sexual offender wished the actress dead, made the news in 2020, <a href="https://variety.com/2020/biz/news/weinstein-jennifer-aniston-should-be-killed-1203529141/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> reported.
Unsealed court documents revealed an email Weinstein wrote in 2017 said, &#8220;Jen Aniston should be killed.&#8221; It was in response to a media inquiry into allegations that Weinstein had allegedly groped the &#8220;Murder Mystery&#8221; star.
At the time, a rep for Aniston told Variety the &#8220;claims are false. Jennifer has not been harassed or assaulted by Harvey.&#8221;
