A Brazilian illegal immigrant allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that he strangled and “ended up killing a woman by mistake” before police found her dead inside her Massachusetts home.
Flavio Alcantara Dias, 43, had his deportation case terminated under the Biden administration and had previous arrests for DUI and aggravated assault, Fox News reported. He then allegedly went on to kill 33-year-old Brianna Connolly in her home in Framingham, Massachusetts, last Thursday.
Dias originally snuck across the border in 2019 before an immigration judge granted the illegal immigrant’s motion to terminate his proceedings in 2024, according to Fox News.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since lodged a detainer asking local authorities to transfer Dias to federal custody if he’s released.
“The safest way to arrest and remove criminal illegal aliens from our streets is by lodging arrest detainers. Seven of the top 10 safest cities in the United States cooperate with ICE. We are urging the Framingham Police Department to participate in a controlled transfer of this criminal illegal alien to get him out of our communities once and for all,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.
“Our message is clear: if you come into our country illegally and break our laws, we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will deport you,” the department added.
Dias faces charges of assault and battery causing serious bodily harm and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card.
Dias called 911, saying he killed the victim by mistake and strangled her, Boston 25 reported.
“He states very clearly, ‘Can I have police? A homicide just happened here right now,'” Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Thomas Brandt recalled.
“He then states, ‘I ended up killing a woman by mistake.’ He says, ‘I went crazy and suffocated her later on,’ says that he strangled her,” he said.
Dias then stated that he was at the victim’s home and that they were doing drugs, according to Boston 25. He then claimed that they got into an argument because he wanted to have sex but she didn’t.
The accused killer said he fell asleep and saw the victim wasn’t breathing when he awoke, the local news outlet reported. He called the police and waited outside for them to arrive.
First responders pronounced Connolly dead at the scene.
“The police then make observations, and the observations that the police make at that point are entirely consistent with the account and description that the defendant has given,” Brandt said.
“They observed that she’s got blood marks on her forehead and also on the back of her head … they also observe a small cord or fabric-y cord around her neck,” Brandt said.
Dias is being held without bail, according to Boston 25.
