Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested more illegal alien criminals on Thursday as the Democrat-led shutdown continued into its fourth week. 
In a “worst-of-the-worst” update provided to The Daily Wire, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted five illegals convicted of crimes ranging from sexual assault to robbery picked up by ICE. 
“Every day, and despite the Democrats’ government shutdown, our ICE officers are arresting pedophiles, sexual assailants, murderers and violent criminals,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “It is unimaginable to think sanctuary politicians put these monsters and sickos over their own constituents.”
According to DHS, the arrests included:

<li>Froilan Mejia-Olvera, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of sexual assault in Collin County, Texas</li>
<li>Juan Enamorado-Leiva, an illegal alien from Honduras convicted of second-degree murder in Durham County, North Carolina</li>
<li>Jose Alfredo Gomez-Vallecios, an  illegal alien from El Salvador, convicted of robbery in Los Angeles County, California</li>
<li>Alejandro Gonzalez-Ortiz, an illegal alien from Mexico, convicted of lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14 in Santa Ana, California</li>
<li>Quoc Ky Luong, a criminal illegal alien from Vietnam, convicted of robbery in Pasadena, California</li>
</ul>

The California arrests come as state Democrats have resisted the Trump administration&#8217;s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration in the Golden State. 
While California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that bans ICE agents from wearing masks during arrests, Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Kevin Mullin have <a href="https://pelosi.house.gov/news/press-releases/pelosi-mullin-statement-reports-planned-federal-immigration-operation-bay-area">threatened</a> that ICE agents could be detained as President Donald Trump considered a major immigration operation in San Francisco. 
In a letter to California officials, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told them to “abandon this apparent criminal conspiracy.”
“The Department of Justice views any arrests of federal agents and officers in the performance of their official duties as both illegal and futile,” Blanche wrote.

The liberal Canadian premier who launched a $75 million anti-tariff ad campaign in the United States featuring former President Ronald Reagan will yank the effort after pressure from President Donald Trump.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Friday afternoon that he would pause the ad campaign put out by his administration targeting Americans starting on Monday. That announcement came after Trump on Thursday said he had ended all trade talks with Canada over the ad, calling it an effort to influence American politics.
“Our intention was always to initiate a conversation about the kind of economy that Americans want to build and the impact of tariffs on workers and businesses,” Ford posted on X. “We&#8217;ve achieved our goal, having reached U.S. audiences at the highest levels. I&#8217;ve directed my team to keep putting our message in front of Americans over the weekend so that we can air our commercial during the first two World Series games.”
Ford said he would “pause [the] U.S. advertising campaign effective Monday so that trade talks can resume” after speaking with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Trump on Thursday said that the ad manipulated Reagan’s words.
“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The ad was for $75,000,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”
Trump’s post followed a statement from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute saying that it was pursuing potential legal options over Ontario’s use of the audio. The foundation encouraged people to watch Reagan’s <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t5QK03KXPc&amp;t=181s">full remarks</a> on its YouTube channel.

Canada Caves: Ontario To Yank ‘Fake’ Reagan Ad After Pressure From Trump

A federal judge on Thursday struck down a Biden-era rule that expanded federal discrimination protections to encompass gender identity and forced health care providers to perform transgender procedures. 
U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. <a href="https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/attorneygeneral/documents/pr/2025/pr25-51-opinion.pdf">sided</a> with Tennessee and fourteen other states that sued the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) over the rule. Guirola said that the HHS overstepped its legal authority by expanding Title IX discrimination protections to gender identity. 
“In the opinion of the Court, Congress only contemplated biological sex when it enacted Title IX in 1972,” the judge wrote. “Therefore, the Court finds that HHS exceeded its authority by implementing regulations redefining sex discrimination and prohibiting gender-identity discrimination.”
The <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/05/06/2024-08711/nondiscrimination-in-health-programs-and-activities">rule</a> had been put forth by the Biden administration on May 6, 2024. Despite the changeover in administration, the states still worried that the rule could be enforced against them in the future. Lawyers for Trump&#8217;s HHS argued that the states should fear no action from the federal government because of Trump&#8217;s crackdown on transgender ideology. 
Guirola said that since the rule was still in place, the “threat of enforcement and legal action is real&#8221; and that the resolution of the legal questions at the heart of the suit would “provide much-needed clarity.” 
He said that the rule would have blocked state-created health benefit exchanges, recipients of Medicaid and Medicare, and others from denying transgender medical procedures.
“When it enacted Title IX, Congress’s concern was prohibiting sex discrimination in education. It was particularly concerned with inequality that female students experienced. It did not at that time contemplate gender identity, transgender status, or ‘gender-affirming care,’” Guirola wrote.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti celebrated the decision from the court. 
“When Biden-era bureaucrats tried to illegally rewrite our laws to force radical gender ideology into every corner of American health care, Tennessee stood strong and stopped them,” Skrmetti said. “This decision restores not just common sense but also constitutional limits on federal overreach, and I am proud of the team of excellent attorneys who fought this through to the finish.”
Skrmetti argued that the rule would have blocked hospitals from maintaining sex-segregated spaces and forced states to subsidize transgender procedures through their Medicaid programs. 
The Republican attorneys general of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia all signed on to the suit.
Through a series of executive orders, President Donald Trump has sought to reverse Biden&#8217;s adoption of transgender ideology. As part of that, he ordered a review of all executive actions taken by Biden on the issue.

Federal Judge Deals Another Major Blow To Transgender Ideology

President Donald Trump ended “all trade negotiations” with Canada on Thursday after Ontario’s government recently launched a $75 million anti-tariff ad campaign targeting Americans and featuring former President Ronald Reagan.
The ad campaign aired in the United States during a playoff baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. Game 1 of the World Series takes place Friday night, featuring the Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The foundation posted a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t5QK03KXPc&amp;t=181s">link</a> to the full speech on its YouTube channel. Ford’s <a href="https://x.com/fordnation/status/1978779503213052337">ad</a> pulls audio from the speech.

A Ford spokesman <a href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/trump-trade-negotiations-tariffs-ontario-ad-9.6951469" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the audio was pulled from the public domain.  
&#8220;Reagan knew and spoke directly to Americans that tariffs hurt the U.S. economy, workers and families. He was a strong supporter of free and fair trade between Canada and America,&#8221; the spokesman said. 
The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on Trump’s tariffs on November 5. Trump on Friday again praised his tariffs, saying that they were making the country prosperous. 
“THE UNITED STATES IS WEALTHY, POWERFUL, AND NATIONALLY SECURE AGAIN, ALL BECAUSE OF TARIFFS! THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER IS IN THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT,” he wrote on Truth Social.

Trump Pulls Plug On Canada Trade Talks Over ‘Fake’ Ad Featuring Ronald Reagan

A Democratic candidate for Congress once boasted about her record of supporting “no new taxes” as mayor of Scranton, Pennsylvania, even as city taxes have steadily climbed during her tenure.
Ready to move on from city politics, Mayor Paige Cognetti is running to unseat Rep. Rob Bresnahan (R-PA), who represents Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District. Cognetti&#8217;s record on taxation is drawing criticism from her opponents, who note that property taxes have jumped multiple times during her time in office, despite complaints from residents. 
Cognetti was first elected as mayor of Scranton during a special election in November 2019 and took office on January 6, 2020. By January 28, the city <a href="https://scrantonpa.gov/docs/council_agendas/2020/2020-01-28%20Minutes.pdf">adopted</a> a 2.47% property tax increase. According to the Times-Tribune, that increase, which was first proposed by the previous mayor, was also <a href="https://www.thetimes-tribune.com/2020/01/23/scranton-annual-trash-fee-to-remain-at-300-in-2020/">authorized</a> by the Cognetti administration.
A year-and-a-half later when running for her first full term in office in May 2021, Cognetti released a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSHWzx9_rgg">campaign ad</a> which claims she “fought new taxes” and guided the city to a “budget surplus with no new taxes.”

After winning re-election, property taxes increased under Cognetti in both 2023 and 2024. Both those hikes were about 2%, but could have been higher if Cognetti had her way. Her administration wanted taxes to increase by 3.5% in 2024, the Times-Tribune <a href="https://www.thetimes-tribune.com/2024/02/10/more-than-a-quarter-of-lackawanna-county-municipalities-hiked-taxes-in-2024/">reported</a>.
Cognetti recently <a href="https://www.audacy.com/podcast/the-morning-news-with-nancy-and-jason-f6d87/episodes/speaking-with-scranton-mayor-paige-cognetti-after-her-victory-in-yesterdays-primary-election-58cad?fbclid=IwY2xjawNQuN9leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFiNVZDckJhZHhHYlE0bGF4AR70dGDQugnDK2Lgk-0TSIyqfypbLtvKzl60HOuBSrj_LdIpYl7xmBrAiy6mmA_aem_k3AZXVPpEUXZFvwxIXMvCA">discussed</a> these hikes on local radio, saying that they were increases that residents could handle. 
“Over five years, we&#8217;ve increased taxes twice, about 2% each time. Those are responsible increases and there&#8217;s things that people can manage,” she said on the “Morning News with Nancy and Jason.”  “We don’t play politics with people&#8217;s finances. We don’t pretend for years that we don’t need to raise our taxes and then let somebody else do it years later.”

At the time the 2024 hike was being considered, some residents of Scranton voiced concerns about not being able to handle the increase.
&#8220;Look at it for senior citizens. I&#8217;m like 72 years old. Where am I going to get the money from on a fixed income? This is not good,&#8221; Gerry Dombroski <a href="https://www.wnep.com/article/news/local/lackawanna-county/proposed-tax-hike-in-scrantons-2024-budget/523-74c54dcf-4db0-4b24-8d24-cc47884f4d9d">told</a> a local ABC affiliate.
Prior to taking office, Cognetti <a href="https://www.thetimes-tribune.com/2019/11/09/cognetti-faces-major-hurdles-as-scranton-mayor/">said</a> that she would fight to lower the city’s income tax, which is 2.4%. She called that rate &#8220;unbelievable,&#8221; comparing it to New York City where &#8220;at least you get a subway.&#8221; That tax has not budged during her over five and a half years in office. 
National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Reilly Richardson said that Cognetti’s record on taxation shows that she is a “political opportunist.” 
“Political opportunist Paige Cognetti raised taxes on hardworking Scranton families then lied about it,” he told The Daily Wire. “Cognetti is too dishonest and too expensive to be mayor, much less a Member of Congress.”
The critical northeastern Pennsylvania race could come down to the wire. Bresnahan only won his last election by about 6,000 votes out of 385,000 cast.

Taxes Have Jumped Under Dem Congressional Candidate Despite ‘No New Taxes’ Boast

A 21-year-old Indian national arrested over a fatal California crash that killed three people was released into the United States by the Biden administration after illegally crossing the border in March 2022.
Jashanpreet Singh was arrested on Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol after the semi-truck he was driving <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/10-freeway-ontario-deadly-crash/">smashed</a> into slow traffic on a freeway in Ontario, causing an eight-vehicle pile-up, according to law enforcement. Investigators say Singh had drugs in his system at the time of the crash. In addition to the three fatalities, four others were injured. 
Singh is <a href="https://wp.sbcounty.gov/sheriff/corrections/inmate-locator/">charged</a> with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing bodily injury. He is currently in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and is not eligible for bail. He is set to make his first court appearance on Thursday.
Border Patrol apprehended Singh in March 2022 after illegally crossing into California, then released pending a court date, Fox News first <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/illegal-immigrant-trucker-accused-fatal-california-crash-released-biden-admin-after-2022-border-crossing">reported</a>. 
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy commented on the footage of the crash on Wednesday, noting the Trump administration’s battle with California over commercial truck licensing standards. 
“This is exactly why [the Department of Transportation] has withheld $40 MILLION from California for failure to comply with our rules to protect drivers,” Duffy <a href="https://x.com/SecDuffy/status/1981098822601494833">posted</a> on X. ”We cannot allow our roads to be a dangerous place!”
Earlier this week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/10/21/criminal-illegal-alien-kills-indiana-man-after-driving-semi-truck-oncoming-traffic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lodged</a> a detainer against an illegal immigrant from Serbia and Montenegro who was accused of killing an Indiana man while driving a semi-truck without a valid commercial license. Borko Stankovic was arrested on October 15 after he allegedly swerved his truck into the wrong lane and fatally crashed into 54-year-old Jeffrey Eberly.

The Trump administration has attempted to crack down on illegal immigrants operating commercial trucks and rolled out new English proficiency requirements for commercial drivers in May.
Duffy announced last week that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration would withhold $40 million from California for its failure to comply with English-language standards. A federal investigation found that from June 25 to August 21, California allowed at least 23 drivers with documented violations of English proficiency in other states to remain on the road.
Florida has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/florida-sues-california-over-sanctuary-policies-trucker-licenses-for-illegal-immigrants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued</a> California for issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. That suit came after a 28-year-old illegal immigrant from India was arrested after he was accused of making an illegal U-turn while driving on the Florida turnpike and killing three people.
