Oh, what a tangled web they weave. A seemingly random statement from Daily Mail Diary editor Richard Eden has re-ignited an old rumor on Twitter, and royal followers are not backing down.

While Eden was speaking of Harry and Meghan, his statement led to Twitter users commenting on the cover-up conspiracy in the royal family regarding the alleged affair between Prince William and Rose Hanbury from 2019.

The drama started Thursday when Eden tweeted, “I genuinely worry that Prince Harry and #Meghan’s criticism of unnamed ‘racist’ royals has increased the danger of attacks on the #Royal Family. Security needs to be stepped up as a result.”

This statement came days after a man breached palace walls in an attempted assasination against Queen Elizabeth. Eden’s comments referenced the bombshell interview Harry and Meghan had with Oprah when they revealed allegations of racism within the inner ranks of the royal family. Specifically, the couple told Oprah there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [their unborn son Archie’s] skin might be when he was born.”

But that interview was in April and Twitter followers were confused as to why Eden was bringing it up now. Plus, they used his statement to resurface old claims that second-in-line heir to the throne Prince William had an affair but was able to cover it up through his media connections.

News of William’s alleged infidelity broke in 2019. It began when The Sun reported on a rift between Kate Middleton and her former good friend Rose Hanbury. Reports claimed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had cut ties with Hanbury and her husband, David Rocksavage, the Marquess of Cholmondeley. The couples were neighbors in Norfolk and got together frequently.

Slate reporter Nicole Cliffe speculated at the time that William’s affair was responsible for the tense relationship between the two royal brothers, since followers already knew William and Harry were at odds with each other. But even as international media outlets started to cover the affair story, the British press stayed silent on the matter. Kensington Palace did not justify the rumors with a denial, but rather ignored the allegations completely.

And now, Eden’s seemingly unrelated tweet had “#princewilliamaffair” trending on Twitter with the insistence that the royals kept the infidelity rumor out of British news purposefully and that William’s affair is an open secret in certain circles.

“Deputy Editor of race baiting newspaper trying to divert attention from the huge L in court,” Scottish journalist Alex Tiffin replied to Eden’s original tweet.

“Also, I’d rather the media just named Prince William as the person in question, instead of pussy footing about it, like they did his affair with the Rose lassie.”

He continued, “PS. Injunctions from the High Court in London are worthless in Scotland, my residence and no amount of legal pressure is going to erase the fact Prince William had an affair with Rose Hanbury. Enjoy your evening.”

So far, the Palace has not issued any kind of statement or commented on the rumors. Some Twitter users insist that the royal family is helping to intentionally hide the “princewilliamaffair” hashtag even though it was trending for hours.
