Hunter Biden’s therapist and confidant, Dr. Keith Ablow, repeatedly made allusions to Joe Biden having struggled with dementia, according to materials on Hunter’s laptop reported in The Laptop From Hell, a new book by New York Post columnist Miranda Devine.
In January 2019, Ablow offered to provide a tongue-in-cheek endorsement for a Joe Biden presidential campaign: “‘Any man who can triumph over dementia is a giant. Think what he could do for our nation’s needed recovery.’ Dr Keith Ablow.”
“Perhaps he can help us remember all we intended to be as a people since he can now remember his address,” the mock endorsement continued.
Ablow was close to Hunter and also served as his onetime landlord, the book says. In February 2019, Ablow and Hunter discussed hosting a podcast together, with Hunter texting: “Dad is our first guest.”
Ablow responded: “Does he recall details tho, with the dementia and all.”
Hunter retorted: “Not much these days but since it’s all fake news anyway I don’t see the problem.”
The book says: “Reached at his Massachusetts office, Ablow declined to comment, but he once diagnosed then-Vice President Biden as having ‘early onset dementia’ during a 2012 appearance on Fox News, so that background may underpin the banter.”
In February 2020, the Drug Enforcement Administration raided Ablow’s office. “Ablow was never charged over the raid, but agents seized a second laptop belonging to Hunter that they found locked in a safe in the basement. Hunter had left it behind the previous February, and just as he had done in Delaware, he ignored repeated messages to pick it up,” the book says.
A poll from June 2020, a few months before the election, found that 55% of likely voters believed Biden “is in the early stages of dementia.” That same month, Joe Concha, a reporter for The Hill, said “A lot of Democrats will tell you, at least privately, that he does not have the mental acuity that he even had a couple of years ago.”
Biden rarely held press conferences during the campaign. At 79, Biden is now the oldest U.S. president in history. His term has been marked by various verbal gaffes in which he appears to lose his train of thought.
On multiple occasions over the last several years, he has seemed to forget Barack Obama’s name, and in October 2020 apparently could not recall the name of Mitt Romney, saying “I got in trouble when we were running against that senator who was a Mormon, the governor.”
In March 2021 Biden appeared to forget his Secretary of Defense’s name.
