German intelligence officials reportedly believe hundreds of Hamas terrorists live inside the country, a revelation which follows a recent terrorism bust there last week involving several alleged members.

The Sunday Times reported that a British pro-Palestinian activist living in Berlin is accused of running a Hamas terrorist network across Europe. The suspect’s name was not given, and no details were provided about any arrest or criminal charges.

The German interior ministry said in internal government documents that the man was secretly “in charge of Germany for Hamas” and that he had contacts with Hamas’ top leaders. The report said that German intelligence agencies believe there are approximately 450 Hamas terrorists inside the country.

It is believed that the man’s parents grew up in the U.K. after his parents left the Palestinian territories in 1948 after the Arab-Israeli war erupted. German law enforcement has identified the man as being the leader of the “central propaganda organisation of Hamas in Europe.” Israel’s security services say that the man is involved in “initiating and organising radical and violent activity against Israel in Europe.”

The Times said that there was no indication if the man was connected to seven people who were arrested last week in three European countries for allegedly planning terror attacks against Jews. The arrests took place in Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands, the three countries said on Thursday.

German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said in a statement that German law enforcement “in cooperation with Dutch authorities, (on Thursday) arrested four members of Hamas who were planning attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe.”

“Abdelhamid Al A., Mohamed B., Ibrahim El-R. and Nazih R. have been longstanding members of HAMAS and have participated in HAMAS operations abroad,” prosecutors said in a statement. “They are closely linked to the military branch’s leadership.”

Three of the suspects were arrested in Germany, while another was arrested in the Netherlands. Three additional suspects were arrested in Denmark on terrorism-related charges, but it was not clear if they were connected to the other four suspects.

“On behalf of HAMAS, Abdelhamid Al A. started searching for an underground weapons cache in Europe no later than spring 2023, which the organisation had created in the past in a conspiratorial manner,” prosecutors said. “He received his orders from HAMAS leaders in Lebanon. The weapons were due to be taken to Berlin and kept in a state of readiness in view of potential terrorist attacks against Jewish institutions in Europe. In October 2023, Abdelhamid Al A., Mohamed B. and Nazih R. travelled repeatedly from Berlin to look for the weapons, with Ibrahim El-R. providing assistance.”
