While some on the Left attempt to memory-hole their support for transgender procedures on kids, a conservative watchdog plans to make sure they don’t escape accountability for targeting the most vulnerable with a sinister ideology that harmed countless young people.
A damning autopsy report released Tuesday by the American Principles Project provides a comprehensive history on how transgender ideology infiltrated government, education, social media, and medicine while harming a generation of young kids. The report, first obtained by The Daily Wire, dives deep into the forces that pushed kids into undergoing irreversible life-altering surgeries.
“What we wanted to do was prevent the legacy media and our opponents on this issue from memory-holing this, like they did with COVID,” American Principles Project President Terry Schilling told The Daily Wire. “They’ll try and act like none of this stuff happened.”
The report, called “Sex Truth and Reconciliation: An Autopsy of the Transgender Movement” and edited by edited by IM-1776 editor Ben Braddock, documents the history of how the transgender ideology took root across the United States and its historic origins in Europe.
“We wanted to document this in real time and produce a blueprint and a guide and a historical document for legislators, their staff, lawyers, prosecutors — anyone that’s involved and engaged in setting public policy,” Schilling told The Daily Wire.
The autopsy features essays from experts from entities like the Heritage Foundation, the America First Policy Institute, the Independent Women’s Forum, and The Daily Wire. The experts examine how transgender ideology became engrained in law, medicine, education, and a championed cause of the Democratic Party.
“It is easy for a bad idea to capture the academy. Easier still to capture the media. Easiest of all to capture the Democratic Party,” Schilling wrote in the report. “The transgender industry managed all three within a matter of years.”
While over two dozen states have now moved to ban transgender procedures on kids and the Trump administration yanks funding from hospitals performing the procedures, Schilling said that conservatives “haven’t secured a permanent victory yet.”
Schilling said that many of the advocates of transgender procedures for kids were allowing for a strategic retreat, but would come back with a vengeance if support no longer became a political vulnerability.
“They’re allowing their politicians to moderate on it,” he said. “It’s because they know it’s a political vulnerability, but it’s a $4.5 billion industry, and that’s a lot of money.”
In races across the country, Democrats like Texas Senate candidate James Talarico are distancing themselves from their previous positions on transgender procedures for kids. While Talarcio claims to not support gender surgeries on kids, he voted against a 2023 law that protected minors from transgender surgeries and cross-sex hormone procedures.
“I think it’s important to acknowledge that, had Donald Trump lost in 2024, James Talarico would not be running away from this issue,” Schilling said, adding that the proponents of transgender ideology must apologize for their advocacy.
“You need to apologize because you’re part of a political movement that has been maiming and sterilizing young children,” he said.
The autopsy from the American Principles Project traces the origins of the transgender industry from fringe academics in Germany to its complete adoption by the Obama administration, the media, and teacher unions.
“The most deceptive thing that anyone in America has done, and the most destructive thing that really did more to grow the trans industry more than anyone, is when Obama reinterpreted civil rights law to include gender identity as a protected class,” Schilling said, noting that opened up the door for federal funding of transgender procedures.
One essay in the collection was written by Dr. Eithan Haim, a whistleblower who accused Texas Children’s Hospital of lying about ending its transgender medical program and performing attempted transition procedures on children as young as 11.
“The practice known as ‘gender affirming care’ is not merely a deviation from the restorative logic of health but rather its antithesis. Their goal is not to restore health but rather to transform it and therefore destroy it. This is not just bad medicine; it is anti-medicine,” Haim wrote.
Another essay from Daily Wire White House correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan focused on the devastating physical impacts of placing young girls on cross-sex hormones and removing their breasts in so-called “top surgeries” to make them look more masculine.
“All of these girls, and many boys as well, have to live with the fact that they were lied to in the name of ideology, that their mental distress had been harnessed in the name of gender ideology, and that they had been victimized,” Olohan wrote.
In an essay on the scope of how deeply transgender ideology has infiltrated the world of education, America First Policy Institute scholar Max Eden noted the alarming number of schools that have policies in place allowing kids to “transition” at school without parental knowledge.
Statistics compiled by watchdog Defending Education found that 1,217 school districts overseeing 21,319 schools and 12.3 million students, have secret social transition policies.
“No previous generation, indeed no generation in the history of mankind, has ever willingly handed its children over to a government institution that teaches an ideological doctrine contrary to their own sincerely held religious and human beliefs,” Eden wrote.
Schilling said that conservatives will continue fighting against transgender ideology until the surgeries are banned nationwide.
“This is an incredibly important fight. It is happening way worse than anyone realizes, even the people that have been involved in this movement from the beginning in opposing it,” he said. ” I just hope that we can get this into as many hands as possible so that we can stop it.”
