Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville told his party that President Donald Trump’s administration was poised to collapse — and soon — and that it would be in their best interest to back off and allow nature to take its course.
Carville, who helped former President Bill Clinton win the White House in 1992, told Mediaite founder Dan Abrams that Trump’s admin would implode within the next four to six weeks — and advised Democrats to stop distracting from that by engaging in knee-jerk protests after his every move.

Abrams began the conversation, noting that Democrats had been playing into the hands of conservative media outlets by reacting to every appointment, every executive order, as though they would be the end of democracy as Americans know it.
“So you got a lot of Democrats who have been sort of yelling and screaming about a lot of these nominations, and in some cases, I think rightly so. And in other cases, I think it’s a little bit been a bit overwrought,” Abrams said. “But, you know, it seems that the angrier Democrats get, the more it feeds into exactly what Donald Trump and Elon Musk and some of these other folks want – meaning Fox News plays sound bites of Democrats heads exploding as sort of sport.”
Carville said the obvious solution was for Democrats to back off: “What I have said very publicly is that Democrats need to play possum. This whole thing is collapsing. It doesn’t need Elizabeth Warren and somebody screaming to pacify some progressive advocacy groups in Washington, which, by the way, I wish these people were just useless. They’re actually worse than useless, that they’re detrimental. And they never, ever learn to shut up.”
“And so then this is what I believe. I believe that this administration, in less than 30 days is in the midst of a massive collapse and particularly a collapse in public opinion,” Carville said, adding that for Democrats, it would be “easy pickings here in six weeks. Just lay back.”
Abrams pressed Carville on the matter, and he doubled down, arguing that in a month or so, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) would be looking across the aisle for support from Democrats because Trump’s agenda had lost the support of his own party.
“We’re in the midst of a collapse. It’s over,” Carville assured him.
