Conservative commentator and former TheBlaze host Tomi Lahren is being slammed by critics as “hypocritical” after she admitted at Politicon on Saturday that she is personally benefiting from one aspect of Obamacare.
In a debate with leftist comedian Chelsea Handler, one of Lahren’s statements drew mocking laughs and cheers from some in the audience.
“I believe it’s my right to purchase health care, I don’t believe it’s my right to pay for it for other people,” Lahren told Handler, Fortune reports. “We need to find alternatives — what we have now is not working. What we had before Obamacare wasn’t working.”
Handler then asked Lahren if she has a health care plan or not, to which Lahren replied, “Well luckily, I’m 24, so I am still on my parents’.”
The statement was met with laughs, claps and cheers, which Handler promptly shut down, defending Lahren for “being honest.”
Various left-leaning media outlets, like USA Today, also picked up the story and celebrated the admission, emphasizing that Lahren was getting blasted online for acknowledging that she benefits from Obamacare raising the dependent age to 25 for parents’ plans.
But Lahren said she was never claiming that there were zero benefits of Obamacare. “That’s exactly what I’m saying,” Lahren said. “To say there are things from Obamacare that are not positive, that’s not true.”
