Residents of Martha’s Vineyard, the wealthy leftist enclave where former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State John Kerry own palatial homes, started a GoFundMe fundraiser after 50 illegal immigrants were transported by Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis to the doorstep of their “sanctuary city.”

They got mocked.

One person donated $5 to the effort, then left this comment: “Lolz here’s a nickel. Use it for Kleenex. Ron DeSantis you are a legend.”

Another person also donated $5 and echoed, “Oh how terrible, Martha’s Vineyard liberals got a taste of what the states on the border experience every day. Just 0.0000000005% (est.) of what the southern border experiences and you all are calling Governor Ron inhumane. Isn’t there room in your mansions for some people who need shelter and work?”

The GoFundMe page stated, “Martha’s Vineyard is a community of open-hearted individuals that view these migrants as people, not political pawns. However, the island is a resort community with only 20,000 year-round residents, and it already faces a shortage of affordable housing and off-season jobs.”

A Twitter account connected to the island wrote, “To our Island community, here is an update on current humanitarian crisis on Martha’s Vineyard….we thank people for their continued help.”

“You can’t make this stuff up,” Townhall reporter Mia Cathell chimed in. “‘URGENT PLEA’! The ultra-wealthy on Martha’s Vineyard has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser, already raising over $36,000. Please help these struggling millionaires with multiple summer homes during this ‘humanitarian crisis.’”

Lisa Belcastro, coordinator for Martha’s Vineyard homeless shelter Harbor Homes, said, “The difficult challenges are, we have, at some point in time they have to move from here to somewhere else. We cannot, we don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants, and we certainly don’t have housing. We’re in a housing crisis as we are on this island. And we don’t, we can’t house everyone here that lives here and work here. We don’t have housing for 50 more people.”

Columnist T. Becket Adams quipped: “lol a martha’s vineyard gofundme. now i’ve seen everything.”

GOP consultant Matt Whitlock added: “Is Babylon Bee just scripting real life now? If Martha’s Vineyard needs a gofundme to deal with 50 migrants how do you think border towns with much less money who experience 10x that number every day are coping?   When do we all just acknowledge Biden’s disastrous policies?”

Despite the wealthy residents’ protestations of compassion for the immigrants, within one day Governor Charlie Baker activated up to 125 National Guard members to clear the immigrants off of the island. They were then herded onto buses to head for a military base.
