Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) faced a wave of backlash over her speech pattern and mannerisms in a recent video — mannerisms that prompted at least one critic to respond by declaring, &#8220;Her code-switch is broken.&#8221;
The comments arose after Crockett — who attended several prestigious schools and earned a law degree — was seen on the video adopting speech patterns that were more commonly seen among those who were far less educated than the Texas Congresswoman.

&#8220;Her code switch is broken,&#8221; Joe DeVito commented. Code switching, as he mentioned, is an active effort to modify one&#8217;s appearance, behavior, or speech in order to fit in with a particular group of people.

Matt Whitlock shared a video of Crockett before the &#8220;code-switch,&#8221; in which her speech was much more measured and articulate.
