Actor Charlie Sheen was recording a conversation for podcast host Joe Rogan&#8217;s next episode when they learned about the assassination of conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on Wednesday afternoon.
Rogan and Sheen were both clearly taken aback, shaken by the news — and both immediately assumed that the shooting had been politically motivated as they reacted in real time to the news.

&#8220;Should we bring this up? I guess we have to,&#8221; Rogan began, clearly just having received the news himself. Bringing his hands to his forehead and taking a deep breath, he said, &#8220;So this just happened, we just found out that Charlie Kirk got shot.&#8221;
Rogan paused then, apparently unsure how to react.
&#8220;That&#8217;s f***ing awful,&#8221; Sheen said.
&#8220;And — is he dead?&#8221; Rogan asked. Off camera, one of his producers said he didn&#8217;t think so.
&#8220;That&#8217;s what was just —?&#8221; Sheen asked. &#8220;— that in the lobby was &#8230;&#8221;
&#8220;One of the guys out there just confirmed that he&#8217;s dead,&#8221; Rogan said, his voice flat.
Rogan let out a heavy sigh as his producer went to confirm the details: &#8220;Whoa.&#8221;
&#8220;Murdered for having a different opinion from somebody else,&#8221; Sheen posited. &#8220;A different ideology from somebody else.&#8221;
&#8220;Yeah, I mean, I don&#8217;t know,&#8221; Rogan said.
&#8220;&#8230; beliefs that didn&#8217;t align,&#8221; Sheen continued.
The producer interrupted to confirm that Kirk had died.
&#8220;Rest in peace,&#8221; Sheen said immediately. &#8220;F***. Twenty-seven years old? Thirty, maybe?&#8221;
&#8220;Do they even have a suspect?&#8221; Rogan asked, but the producer had no more answers.
&#8220;F***,&#8221; Sheen said again. &#8220;Nobody deserves that, he didn&#8217;t deserve that, nobody deserves that.&#8221;

Governor Spencer Cox (R-UT) vowed to seek the death penalty in the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk — and called on members of the public to aid in the manhunt that has already gone on for more than 24 hours.
The call came during a press conference that took place late Thursday evening — a press conference that was initially scheduled for earlier in the day, but was delayed at the last minute due to &#8220;rapid developments&#8221; in the case. &#8220;Due to the rapid developments in our investigation, we will suspend this,&#8221; the Utah Department of Public Safety announced via email.
The press conference began about twenty minutes later than the scheduled start time of 7:30 p.m. local time, and officials shared video of the suspect as he ran from his perch and ultimately climbed over the edge of the roof of the building, hanging from the side before jumping to the ground.

They called on members of the public to look at identifiable items of clothing on the suspect to hopefully assist officials as they try to find the individual responsible for Kirk&#8217;s murder. They also announced that they had already interviewed more than 200 people and had received thousands of tips from the public, more than they had seen in any case since the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

DPS asked for digital tips and videos from anyone who might have footage from the Wednesday event, and vowed to capture the person responsible. Governor Spencer Cox (R-UT) also promised that the state planned to seek the death penalty once the suspect was apprehended and tried.
Investigators began the manhunt within moments of the fatal shooting that took place on Wednesday during a campus event at Utah Valley University, and photos of a &#8220;person of interest&#8221; in the case were released to the public on Thursday afternoon. The photos showed a male figure wearing an American flag t-shirt, sunglasses, and a hat — and authorities said they believed he&#8217;d &#8220;blended in well with a college institution&#8221; and was likely around the same age as some of those present for Kirk&#8217;s event.
The FBI offered a reward of $100,000 to anyone who could provide information that led to the shooter&#8217;s arrest.
&#8220;The shooting is believed to be a targeted attack. The shooter is believed to have fired from the roof of a building down to the location of the public event in the student courtyard,&#8221; the Utah Department of Public Safety said in a statement prior to the press conference. &#8220;Any additional clarifications cannot be provided to protect the integrity of our investigation.&#8221;

Governor Vows To Seek Death Penalty In Kirk Assassination, Calls On Public To Aid In Manhunt

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) used the assassination of conservative commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk as an opportunity to complain about &#8220;right-wing extremists&#8221; and blame them for political violence in the United States.
Moulton made an appearance on CNN to discuss Kirk&#8217;s assassination — which had occurred not even 24 hours earlier at a college campus event in Orem, Utah — and he immediately attempted to make the conversation about violence coming from the political Right.

Moulton claimed that the bipartisan sentiment in Congress was an agreement that &#8220;we all need to turn down the rhetoric,&#8221; but then he pivoted. &#8220;But let&#8217;s be serious about where the violence is coming from. Of extremist violent attacks in America, extremist violent murders, 76% are from right-wing extremists, four percent are from left-wing extremists.&#8221;
&#8220;I condemn that four percent,&#8221; he assured host Kate Bolduan, adding, &#8220;But we also need to be honest about — as a nation — about where this violence is coming from.&#8221;
He concluded by once again attacking conservatives and claiming that they were responding to recent shootings by calling for more guns in the streets.
&#8220;And oh, by the way, it&#8217;s probably an appropriate time to talk about guns, too,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You hear a lot of conservatives saying, hey, the only thing we need to do here is get more guns on the street. That&#8217;s not going to solve this problem. That&#8217;s just going to make it worse.&#8221;
Moulton did not give any evidence that conservatives were actually calling for &#8220;more guns on the street,&#8221; nor did he offer even a hint at who might have said such a thing.

Democrat Blasts ‘Right-Wing Extremists’ Less Than 24 Hours After Charlie Kirk Assassination

CNN avoided one key aspect out of its own coverage even after a number of reports stated that ammunition — recovered from the scene of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk&#8217;s assassination in Utah on Wednesday — had been engraved with phrases reflecting &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ammunition-from-charlie-kirk-assassination-was-engraved-with-transgender-and-anti-fascist-ideology">transgender, antifascist ideology.</a>&#8221;
The ammunition was found with an older model .30-caliber rifle — which would typically be used for hunting larger game at long distances — in the woods near the campus of Utah Valley University, where Kirk had been hosting an event at the time of his death. But CNN&#8217;s report noted that the ammunition was engraved without mentioning the potential ties to radical gender ideology.
Instead, CNN&#8217;s <a href="https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/charlie-kirk-shot-utah-death-09-11-25#cmffhmf7g002n3b6pn6wtr3p6">liveblog headline</a> read, &#8220;Federal officials probe rifle and ammo scrawled with cultural phrases after Charlie Kirk killing.&#8221;
The text of the post was no more specific:
<blockquote>A range of phrases related to cultural issues were found scrawled on a rifle and ammunition found in the woods near where conservative activist Charlie Kirk was murdered on Wednesday, according to sources with knowledge of the investigation.</blockquote>
The post went on to note that officials were &#8220;analyzing the messages,&#8221; but had not come up with a clear motive for the assassination.
A CNN spokesperson said in a statement that the network had simply published the information that they had at the time, and would update accordingly as new information became available.
&#8220;And James Earl Ray had &#8216;cultural attitudes,'&#8221; National Review editor Rich Lowry said, referencing the man who assassinated Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.

&#8220;I don&#8217;t even say parties, I say a nation,&#8221; McCarthy pushed back. &#8220;There&#8217;s a moment that I want to look to, and I went back and I watched this again. When Robert F. Kennedy is running and he&#8217;s in Indianapolis, and he just got the news that Martin Luther King was killed. And he has to tell the crowd, because we don&#8217;t have social media at that time.&#8221;
&#8220;And it was remarkable the words he said,&#8221; McCarthy continued. &#8220;He said, &#8216;We have to ask as a nation, who are we? And how do we want to move forward?&#8217; We have watched this political attack on both sides — we watched what happened in Minnesota. We watched what happened to President Trump.&#8221;
McCarthy went on to note that Kirk was not an elected official and was actively encouraging even those who disagreed with him to stand up and discuss their ideas.

CBS Host Wonders When Republicans Will Accept ‘Responsibility’ For People Shooting At Them

President Donald Trump said the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was a &#8220;dark moment for America&#8221; in an Oval Office address on Wednesday night, saying that he was &#8220;filled with grief and anger&#8221; following the &#8220;heinous assassination.&#8221;
&#8220;Charlie inspired millions and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror. Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loves so much, the United States of America,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;He fought for liberty, democracy, justice, and the American people. He&#8217;s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there&#8217;s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.&#8221;

Trump had responded to the news earlier in the day with posts on Truth Social, first calling on Americans to pray for Kirk and then announcing that he had passed away at the age of 31, leaving behind his wife Erika and their two young children.
In his Wednesday night address, he also took aim at what he views to be the root cause of the violent attack. Trump called out the media and the political left, saying that politically motivated assassinations were largely the result of people demonizing others simply because they hold differing opinions.
&#8220;For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world&#8217;s worst mass murderers and criminals,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we&#8217;re seeing in this country today.&#8221;
Trump said Kirk, one of his most fervent supporters who played a key role in his 2024 political campaign, was better at communicating with young voters than anybody in history.
&#8220;This is a dark moment for America,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Charlie Kirk traveled the nation, joyfully engaging with everyone interested in good faith debate. His mission was to bring young people into the political process, which he did better than anybody. Ever &#8230; He championed his ideas with courage, logic, humor, and grace.&#8221;
&#8220;Charlie was also a man of deep, deep faith. And we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace with God in heaven,&#8221; Trump said, before asking for God&#8217;s protection and comfort for Kirk&#8217;s family &#8220;in this terrible hour of heartache and pain.&#8221;
