In its never-ending hate campaign against Donald Trump, one of CNN’s more sinister methods (among many) is to go beyond questioning the president’s patriotism to outright question his very Americanism. This deliberate “othering” of Trump and his White House is what I call an “assassination dogwhistle,” a signal sent out by a powerful news organization that Trump is a dangerous and unstable traitor. On Tuesday, Jim Acosta, the leftwing network’s White House correspondent, followed in the footsteps of his colleague Jake Tapper in questioning the White House’s Americanism.
Back in February, Tapper lashed out at Trump as “un-American.” On Tuesday, Acosta asked if the Trump White House “feel[s] like America”:
Acosta, a preening, leftwing peacock who frequently interrupts and talks over his colleagues in the briefing room in order to grandstand and heckle, is obviously upset over the fact that during Tuesday’s daily press briefing, White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders blasted CNN over its recent spree of fake news. In answer to a question about CNN asked by Charlie Spiering of Breitbart News, Sanders held nothing back about Acosta’s fake news network:
I don’t know that the response isn’t good enough for the president. I think it’s the constant barrage of fake news directed at this president that has garnered a lot of his frustration. … There are multiple other instances where that outlet that you referenced has been repeatedly wrong and had to point that out or be corrected. There’s a video circulating now … I would encourage everybody in this room and frankly, everybody across the country, to take a look at it. I think if it’s accurate. I think it’s a disgrace to all of media, to all of journalism. I think we have gone to a place where if the media can’t be trusted to report the news, then that’s a dangerous place for America. And I think if that is the place that certain outlets are going, particularly for the purpose of spiking ratings, and if that’s coming directly from the top, I think that’s even more scary, and certainly more disgraceful. And I hope that’s not the direction we’re headed. I hope that outlets that have continued to use either unnamed sources, sometimes stories with no sources at all … We’ve been going on this Russia-Trump hoax for the better part of a year now, with no evidence of anything. Things like the success at the VA barely get covered, they may get covered for an hour at a time, but this story gets covered day in and day out. … They deserve something better from our news media.
Sanders went on to urge everyone to watch James O’Keefe’s undercover video of a senior CNN producer admitting that CNN is only pushing the Russia hoax as a means to appeal to its left-wing viewers. The producer also admitted that Trump has a point in proclaiming it all a “witch hunt.”
An important point here, in fact the only point that matters: the Obama White House frequently attacked Fox News. At no time during these attacks did either Tapper or Acosta or anyone at CNN question Obama’s Americanism.
In fact, CNN has stated that it believes that this kind of harsh rhetoric can lead to violence against the president.
So I think we can all agree that the intent behind CNN’s relentless jihad against Trump is disturbingly clear.
