Performer Harry Styles brought his Madison Square Garden show to a screeching halt on Saturday, stopping everything to ask the audience who had been throwing chicken nuggets onto the stage.

Styles was in the middle of a 15-show run in New York City — part of his 83-date Live Nation tour — titled “Love on Tour” that will span at least 22 countries worldwide — when he realized that someone in the audience had tossed something onto the stage. Clearly amused when he realized it was a chicken nugget, Styles let the crowd in on the joke.

“Interesting, very interesting approach,” Styles said, waving the small piece of chicken over his head. “Who threw the chicken nugget?”

Noticing another chicken nugget on the stage, he continued, “There’s another chicken nugget!”

The audience quickly broke into a chant, demanding that he “EAT IT! EAT IT! EAT IT!”

“I don’t eat chicken,” Styles objected, adding, “Sorry, I don’t eat meat.”

He followed that with a phrase that sounded a bit like “non mangia carne,” which loosely translated, is Italian for “don’t eat meat.”

He then tossed the chicken nugget into the crowd, saying, “There you go, you can have your nugget back.”

“First of all, this is cold and I’m assuming very old,” Styles continued, walking across the stage and retrieving the second chicken nugget. Several in the crowd began to chant “EAT IT!” again, but Styles ignored that and, laughing, asked the person who had apparently thrown the chicken whether they would like to have it back.

“You want it back? Why?” he laughed. “Because? All right, there you go.”

He tossed the second chicken nugget into the crowd, warning, “Don’t eat it! Oh, now it’s on the floor. Don’t go looking for it. We’ll get you another nugget, ok? Fear not, fear not.”

Styles then went back to his performance, but not before asking the audience whether there was anyone else who wanted to throw anything onto the stage. “Would anyone else like to throw any old food before we move on? Okay,” he said.
