‘Hamilton’ Cast and Audience Boo and Bully VP-Elect Mike Pence

Apparently, we have returned to the George W. Bush-era where no one on the Left will ever again be civil or gracious, where you will no longer just be entertained by entertainment because Someone. Has. Something. To. Say. We saw this Friday night in the face of Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who made the mistake of attending the Broadway smash musical “Hamilton.” For his trouble, Pence found himself bullied by boos and a sanctimonious curtain-call lecture.

The leftwing New York Times describes the scene:

As the play ended, the actor who played Aaron Burr, Brandon Victor Dixon, acknowledged that Mr. Pence was in the audience, thanked him for attending and added, “We hope you will hear us out.”

“We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” he said. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf all of us.”

The audience broke out in enthusiastic applause and cheers.

Mr. Pence was leaving as Mr. Dixon began to read the statement from the stage. A show spokesman said that Mr. Pence stood in the hallway outside the entrance to the auditorium and heard the full remarks.

Pence was booed as he took his seat.

Now I am not one of those “shut up and sing” conservatives. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an artist expressing a political opinion. We’re all Americans and we should all use whatever forum is available to us to express ourselves. But…

Artist or auto mechanic, it is the way in which we express ourselves that separates us from those who are narcissistic jerks, and those who are not, and the “Hamilton” cast failed that test spectacularly.

Anyone defending these jerks should flip the scenario…

The year is 2008 and newly-minted Vice President-elect Joe Biden attends a play. Upon entering he is booed. After the play concludes, the cast comes out and bullies him into listening to a statement that questions his decency and even his humanity — a pro-life statement, perhaps.

There is nothing okay with this.

Yes, the cast had the right to do this, only a fool would argue otherwise.

Nevertheless, only a fool would argue the moment wasn’t pompous, off-putting, rude and mean-spirited.
