Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) crossed party lines to endorse former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) in the Michigan Senate race on Sunday.
Stevens made the endorsement via X after attending services with Rogers at Perfecting Church in Detroit.
“Hey Michigan. As you may have seen, our Democratic nominee for U.S., Senate, Abdul, said that I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens began. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today. I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign. I do not stand with Hasan Piker.”

“A dear friend of mine, earlier today, was saying that education is on the ballot and she’s absolutely right,” Stevens continued. “And what our students see, what our children see, and who we are as Michiganders is not hate, and is not what we are getting from our Democratic nominee right now.”

“So I am just one person. I love this state,” she concluded, saying that her campaign had been intended as a “love letter” to the state. “Thus is Phil Hart’s seat in the U.S. Senate. This is the conscience of the Senate right now, and our Michigan moment. And I’m just letting you know where I am. I’m still a very proud Democrat, I still very much believe in everything I voted for and said, and I’ve worked really hard and will continue to do so in all the ways life’s opportunities afford. Godspeed and love you all so much.”
Stevens was initially scheduled to appear at a campaign event with Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed on Sunday, but instead, attended a church service alongside his opponent, Rogers. Within hours of her appearance, Melissa Nann Burke of The Detroit News reported that members of Stevens’ official staff had resigned on Sunday.
Stevens was seen entering Perfecting Church, a Pentecostal congregation in Detroit, where Rogers was attending Sunday services. She greeted Rogers with a hug as she entered the building.

She stopped to make one brief statement before entering the sanctuary with Rogers, saying she supported investing in black-owned businesses “[and] that is a policy that Mike’s going to take on.”

Stevens lost to El-Sayed in Michigan’s Democrat Senate primary, and initially suggested she would back the leftist candidate in the general election. In the last several weeks, however, Stevens has voiced growing concern over El-Sayed — in particular because of an ad that blamed the American affordability crisis on U.S. funding for Israel.
The ad in question, which was initially made for The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur’s ill-fated presidential run in 2024, claimed that if American families could not afford necessities, it was because taxpayer dollars were being used to pay for Israel to wage war in Gaza.
Stevens ripped the ad last week.
“This type of fearmongering about Israel is wrong. It is not a winning strategy for any state. It does nothing to help Michigan Democrats win up and down the ballot in eight days,” she said. “Do we need to lower costs by building more homes, securing people’s health care, and creating a fairer federal tax code? Yes, we do!! How we do so is not by blaming the high costs of our goods on the only Jewish homeland in the world. I want to see Democrats succeed at every level, and that means keeping our focus on lowering costs for Michigan families and reining in this out-of-control President.”
Just days after the ad dropped, Stevens — who has long described herself as a non-Jewish Zionist — was asked on CNN whether she’d still support El-Sayed in the general election.
All she would confirm to “State of the Union” host Dana Bash was that she was “still on the [Democrat] team.”
