A man tried to commit armed robbery at a Pizza Hut and was fatally shot during the incident. His parents wanted to know why he was shot.
WBTV reports that Michael Grace, Jr., 29, and two others were in the process of robbing a Pizza Hut in Charlotte, North Carolina. Grace reportedly wanted to rob the restaurant to provide for his son.
During the robbery, a worker at the Pizza Hut shot Grace, Jr. in the head and killed him.
Grace, Jr.’s parents are angry about it and feel that their son’s death was due to a vendetta since Grace, Jr. used to work at that Pizza Hut and clashed with other employees at the restaurant.
“Why in the hell did this guy have a gun?” the mother, Temia Hairston, said.
She also argued that the fact Grace, Jr. “was shot in the left side of his head just behind his ear” was clearly a “personal” shot and that the worker that shot him should be in prison.
Hairston acknowledged that her son did was wrong but maintained that she did “not believe that Michael would have hurt anyone.”
Pizza Hut released a statement that read:
The local Pizza Hut franchisee is fully cooperating with the Charlotte Police Department as they continue their investigation, but want to stress that the security of its staff is of utmost concern. They are providing support to the team members involved to ensure their health and well-being following this incident. The employee involved in the shooting has been placed on a leave of absence following further review.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
People on Twitter didn’t mince words in regards to the questions raised by the parents: (via Twitchy)
@AlexGilesNews @WBTV_News To me, that’s a stupid question. He was there to rob and he had a gun.

@AlexGilesNews @WBTV_News if they asked different questions earlier, held their son accountable for things, he might not of made that choice

@AlexGilesNews @WBTV_News for them to even ask that tells EXACTLY why their son robbed people. #MindlessParents

With all due respect to the parents, when there’s an armed robbery and people are afraid for their lives, the natural instinct is to act an self-defense. Perhaps there the worker that shot Grace, Jr. had a vendetta against him, but if that is the case it will come up the investigation. The better question to be asked is why Grace, Jr. was in that position of financial hardship to begin with and why he was handling it by resorting to crime instead of other legal measures to provide for his child.
