Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said Wednesday that Dr. Anthony Fauci might want to consider a career change after a recent document dump revealed just how much he appears to have known — and may have worked to cover up — about the origins of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gutfeld and his co-hosts on “The Five” addressed the issue after watching a clip of Fox News anchor Bret Baier reporting on the timeline of events and the information revealed in the documents.

“The documents also show Fauci and scientists around the world worked to suppress the lab leak theory over fears it would upset science and international harmony,” Dana Perino noted as the clip ended. “That was a part that really bothered me. Why not just be transparent?”

“The biggest problem here is that the experts that are scolding us on masks, mandates, and risk assessment are the ones who risked billions of lives on this questionable science that led to millions of deaths,” Gutfeld replied. “Fauci should probably resign and get a lawyer. No wonder that Dr. Fauci was quivering whenever anybody brought up China because the paper trail doesn’t just involve Chinese scientist, it involves American scientists too.”

“Think about the class-action litigation on this, when you’re talking about 12 million people dead,” Gutfeld continued. “You could bankrupt a country. That’s trillions in settlements if you want to do it. So, somebody has to go to jail; if you’re arresting non-vaxxed people at Applebee’s, somebody should be paying the price for this, which is now becoming a holocaust, right?”

Co-host Geraldo Rivera groaned at the mention of the holocaust, but Gutfeld clarified, “It’s over six million dead, I’m talking about numbers.”

Gutfeld went on to say that the “experts” had hidden the most obvious possibility — the lab leak theory — because they “didn’t want to piss off China, lose funding, or go to prison.”

Gutfeld was careful to point out that the possible leak was not deliberate, but that the actions of those who had supported questionable research had still put the entire world at risk.

“They killed millions of people, and we’re not even trying to investigate,” he said.

“It is not the underlying crime that is so easy to identify, it is the cover-up,” Judge Jeanine Pirro agreed, adding, “And now we have the cover-up where we have all of these doctors smeared from Oxford, and Harvard, and Stanford — they were all smeared by Dr. Fauci and his gang.”

Pirro said that where Fauci, Dr. Francis Collins, and others had gone wrong was in reportedly shutting down the scientists who had disagreed with them. “The bottom line on this thing is that science should be about debate, it should be about criticism, it should be receptive to skepticism. That’s what science is all about. So, you get together with people and you test different theories. These guys are dictators; they got together and said, you know what? Whether we are responsible or not, we are going to cover it up and, you know, the hell with science,” she said.

Rivera jumped in then, saying that he had always liked Fauci because he was “not a politician” — prompting laughter and groans from everyone else at the table.

“It’s called the Wuhan virus for a reason,” Rivera continued, noting that everyone knew it had begun in Wuhan within a mile of the laboratory in question. “It does not take a rocket [scientist] — or a virology scientist to tell us that it’s probably from the lab.”

Rivera went on to say that if China was culpable, that information would come out – although he conceded that the Chinese government had probably already scrubbed the wet market they had initially blamed for the outbreak and even possibly killed the interns who worked at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“I don’t believe that this is such a big, momentous revelation,” Rivera continued. “What’s the crime, Greg?”

Everyone started talking at once then, noting that people were being arrested for going to work or not wearing masks, and saying that millions of people had died because no one wanted to admit to being party to the risky gain-of-function research that may have led to the creation of the novel coronavirus in the first place.

“All he had to say was, when we all knew that it was gain-of-function that escaped, ‘Sorry, this is on us.’ And then you fall on your sword and you resign,” co-host Jesse Watters concluded.
