The Twitter account for the Greater Glasgow, Scotland police has morphed into the online thought police to shield the precious snowflakes on Twitter from mean comments.
Here’s the tweet that ignited the Internet firestorm:
Think before you post or you may receive a visit from us this weekend. Use the internet safely. #thinkbeforeyoupost pic.twitter.com/xNiDMf3jPA

It’s the kind of tweet that makes people wonder if it’s an April Fool’s joke…
Please be aware that we will continue to monitor comments on social media & any offensive comments will be investigated.

The Greater Glasgow Police and the Scotland Police are dead serious–your tweets will be monitored. Policing offensive comments on Twitter has now become a higher priority than policing actual crime.
Naturally, people were not pleased:
.@GreaterGlasgPol Just curious, is every member of your police force a deranged transvestite like James McAvoy in “Filth”?

Do you suppose the gormless PC who runs the @GreaterGlasgPol Twitter account is in a fetal position, sobbing uncontrollably, now?

Terrifying. Orwell’s Thought and Speech Police have arrived. I despair for our world. 🙁— Rob Alexander (@RobAlexandr) April 1, 2016
@GreaterGlasgPol This is the result of liberalism. Can’t even have thoughts that contradict the state. Hey, you guys are cucks. Arrest me.

The Spectator‘s Alex Massie unleashed a scathing criticism of the Greater Glasgow and Scotland Police.
“Whatever next? The monitoring of conversations in public houses? Why not?” writes Massie. “Twitter and Facebook, after all, are merely digital, virtual, gathering places. As the wags on social media have put it today, Thur’s been a Tweet and Detective Chief Inspector Taggart is on the case.”
Those in Scotland better be careful not to trigger anyone on Twitter, as the Greater Glasgow Police have anointed themselves as gatekeepers of the vaunted safe space.
