Google Memo Guy Hires Powerhouse Attorney

Former Google software engineer James Damore authored a memo describing why gender representation discrepancies exist in the tech industry and ripping Google’s supposedly “pro-diversity” policies. Refusing to allow one of its own employees to spread conservative-leaning heresies, Google quickly fired Damore. Now, he has hired powerhouse conservative lawyer Harmeet Dhillon to bring a lawsuit against the tech leviathan.

California is an “at-will” state, so Google was allowed to fire Damore. However, he claims he was whistleblowing on illegal activity within Google. If that is true, then his firing would be an unlawful firing. Damore alleges Google treats people preferentially in the hiring process depending on their race or gender.

When Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro interviewed Damore on “the Ben Shapiro Show,” the fired Google employee said legal action was a “definite possibility” and he was “pursuing it.”

He has indeed pursued it, and he’s chosen Dhillon to represent him. Dhillon is a widely known and respected lawyer; in fact, there are rumors that Dhillon was on President Donald Trump’s shortlist to lead the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division before he chose Eric Dreiband.

In a statement Wednesday, Dhillon said, “We are also engaging with several other Google employees or former employees who have suffered adverse employment actions at Google. We are exploring all potential legal avenues for these clients, and gathering facts about working conditions at Google, particularly for those whose views are inconsistent with Google’s political orthodoxy.”

Dhillon Law Group Inc. is no stranger to big cases on hot button issues. Mrs. Dhillon is also working on a first amendment lawsuit against the University of California Berkeley on behalf of the Berkeley College Republicans and YAF.

If the extent of what James Demore is saying about suppression of conservative ideas and discrimination against individuals is true, could enough Google employees come out of the woodwork and make this a class action lawsuit? With recent polls showing that a majority of Google employees believe Damore was unjustly fired, that option may very well be on the table.

The chaos caused by Damore’s memo has brought Google’s Orwellian echo-chamber to the surface. Damore explained Google’s thought policing in his memo, “when it comes to diversity and inclusion, Google’s left bias has created a politically correct monoculture that maintains its hold by shaming dissenters into silence. This silence removes any checks against encroaching extremist and authoritarian policies.”

Diversity of some based on biological traits is welcome at Google, but diversity of thought tends to jeopardize Google’s “dominant ideology.”

Bradley Devlin is a student at the University of California Berkeley studying Political Economy and serves as the secretary of the Berkeley College Republicans.
