On Monday, FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe finally stepped down from his position; he’ll be on leave for the rest of his tenure in order to receive his full pension. McCabe had been rightly smacked around recently for his failure to recuse himself during the Hillary Clinton classified emails investigation; his wife had received nearly $700,000 from the Virginia Democratic Party and the political action committee of Hillary ally Virginia Governor Terry McCauliffe. Just last week, texts were released showing that members of the FBI thought McCabe should have recused himself; he only recused himself one week before the 2016 election.
Trump had pointed out this conflict in full living color:
So why did McCabe step down now? Perhaps he was finally up to his limit when it came to taking abuse from Trump; perhaps something more nefarious is going on.
Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that he thought McCabe stepped down because he was involved in nefarious abuses covered by the infamous House Republican memo:
Whatever the reason, McCabe should have gone long ago. And this shows that Trump should have cleaned house the first day of his administration. He should have fired FBI Director James Comey; he should have fired McCabe. The FBI was a political tool on behalf of the Obama administration, and new blood was necessary. Good riddance to Andrew McCabe.
