The GoFundMe page that was set up this week to fund a party for the college students who protected the American flag from pro-Hamas protesters at the University of North Carolina has surged past $420,000 in just a little over a day.

In what became an instantly iconic photo that was viewed across social media tens of millions of times, a group of young men from the UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of Pi Kappa Phi could be seen holding the large flag, preventing it from touching the ground.

“We are overwhelmed by you glorious, Patriotic Americans who value good beer and great times,” the page said. “We are in contact with multiple leaders from fraternities whose members helped defend the flag, including Alpha Epsilon Pi and others, in addition to Pi Kappa Psi. Our gratitude goes to all of them and we will update supporters on what comes next.”

“Commie losers across the country have invaded college campuses to make dumb demands of weak University Administrators,” the page continued. “But amidst the chaos, the screaming, the anti-semitism, the hatred of faith and flag, stood a platoon of American heroes. Armored in Vineyard Vines and Patagonia, fueled by Zyn and White Claws, these triumphant Brohemians protected Old Glory from the unwashed Marxist horde — laughing at their shrieks and wails and shielding the Stars & Stripes from Soviet missiles.”

The page said the funds will be used to “throw this frat the party they deserve.”

Student Guillermo Estrada wrote that he was walking to class when he noticed a Palestinian flag had been “raised on our quad flag pole,” causing him to become “immediately upset.” He said school officials and police officers “were met with profanity, middle fingers” and “thrown bottles” when they arrived to re-hoist the American flag. But the protesters persisted, he said.

Estrada said his Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers and others protected the American flag when protesters tried to remove it again and were “preparing to destroy it.”

“People began throwing water bottles at us, rocks, sticks, calling us profane names. We stood for an hour defending the flag so many fight to protect.”
