Openly gay U.S. Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy broke his thumb while practicing, but don’t cry for him, because that just he means he won’t have to suffer the agony of shaking the vice president’s hand, according to him.
It seems that the openly gay U.S. figure skater Adam Rippon is not the only one openly trolling the VP as he represents the United States at the Olympics. On Twitter, Gus Kenworthy expressed joy over breaking his thumb because of one “silver lining.”
“Broke my thumb yesterday in practice,” he tweeted. “It won’t stop me from competing (obvi) but it does prevent me from shaking Pence’s hand so… Silver linings! Will be giving my teammates (and literally everyone else) an enthusiastic “thumbs up!” of encouragement the rest of the trip.”
Both Rippon and Kenworthy have been taking unfair, classless, and wholly-unprovoked shots at the vice president since the opening days of the Olympics, despite his welcoming attitude toward both of them.
When Pence openly invited Rippon to come and talk about some of his issues, the figure skater kept making excuses not to meet. He also attacked the VP’s Christian faith in an interview with USA Today, saying, “To stand by some of the things that Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say he’s a devout Christian man is completely contradictory.”
Prior to the Olympics opening ceremony, Kenworthy said on the Ellen Degeneres show that Pence was a bad choice to lead the U.S. delegation.
“To have somebody leading the delegation that’s directly attacked the LGBTQ community, and a Cabinet in general that just sort of stands against us and has tried to do things to set us back, it just seems like a bad fit,” said Kenworthy.
In an Instagram post, both Rippon and Kenworthy posted live from the Olympic “gaymes” and told Pence to eat his heart out:
