Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) appears to be doubling down on the incendiary rhetoric — and targeting President Donald Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller — even as political violence ramps up, particularly against those on the Right.
Just over two weeks after a shooter — who inscribed the phrase “Hey fascist, catch!” on a bullet casing —assassinated conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, someone used Newsom’s official @GovPressOffice account to post, “STEPHEN MILLER IS A FASCIST!”

“He knows exactly what he’s doing,” Donald Trump Jr. posted, prompting a reply from the account: “yes, calling out your dad and his authoritarian stooges for being fascists.”

A number noted that Newsom — and many other Democrats — appeared to have little or no interest in taking any concrete steps toward dialing down the inflammatory rhetoric.

Others pointed to the words themselves, noting that the post adopted the sentiment behind inscribed bullet casings in not one, but two targeted killings.
