<p>Former Vanderbilt University and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested for driving under the influence in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday night.</p>
<p>Cutler, 41, was charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and violation of implied consent law, WKRN <a href="https://www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/jay-cutler-charged-with-dui-in-franklin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The Pro Bowler, who started his NFL career with the Denver Broncos, was booked in the Williamson County Jail and was released late Thursday night after posting $5,000 bond, according to <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/10/18/jay-cutler-arrested-for-dui/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TMZ</a>.</p>

<p>Following an impressive college career at Vanderbilt, Cutler was selected 11th overall by the Broncos in the 2006 NFL draft. He was traded to the Bears in 2009 and played in Chicago for eight seasons. Cutler was offered a job as a broadcaster for Fox Sports after retiring in 2017, but he decided to return to the NFL as a backup for the Miami Dolphins.</p>

<p>The Trump administration is &#8220;actively&#8221; considering suspending habeas corpus as it seeks to continue its mass deportation efforts that are being hindered by federal judges.</p>
<p>White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said on Friday that the Constitution makes it &#8220;clear&#8221; that the writ of habeas corpus, which allows a person to petition a court to review the legality of their detention, can be &#8220;suspended in a time of invasion.&#8221;</p>
<p>“So, it’s an option we’re actively looking at,&#8221; Miller said, adding that &#8220;it depends on whether the courts do the right thing or not.”</p>
<p>Multiple federal judges have stopped Trump from carrying out his deportation agenda by blocking the administration&#8217;s use of the Alien Enemies Act. The Trump administration was using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to quickly deport Venezuelan illegal immigrants that it said were violent criminals and gang members. The president <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114466868060900843" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blasted</a> &#8220;activist judges&#8221; on Wednesday, calling on them to allow the deportation of &#8220;murderers, and other criminals who have come into our Country illegally, WITHOUT DELAY!!!</p>
<p>&#8220;Our Court System is not letting me do the job I was Elected to do,&#8221; Trump added.</p>
<p>Miller also argued on Friday that the Immigration and Nationality Act, which was passed by Congress in 1965, strips the judicial branch&#8217;s jurisdiction &#8220;from overruling a presidential determination or a secretarial determination on TPS [temporary protected status].&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;So when Secretary [Kristi] Noem terminated TPS for the illegals that Biden flew into the country, when the courts stepped in, they were violating explicit language that Congress had enacted. &#8230; So the courts aren’t just at war with the executive branch, the courts are at war — these radical, rogue judges — with the legislative branch as well. So all of that will inform the choices the president ultimately makes,&#8221; Miller said.</p>

<p>If the White House attempts to suspend habeas corpus by arguing that the United States is being invaded, the move would likely be challenged, creating another battle between the courts and the president. Habeas corpus has been <a href="https://constitutioncenter.org/the-constitution/articles/article-i/clauses/763" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> four times throughout U.S. history. The first time was during the Civil War, and then again during Reconstruction while the federal government was going after the Ku Klux Klan. It was also suspended in the Philippines in 1905 during an insurrection and in Hawaii after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.</p>
<p>Trump rebuffed an order from Judge James Boasberg on March 15 after the judge said the administration must return deportation flights carrying Venezuelans to El Salvador. The deportation fight eventually made its way up to the Supreme Court, which blocked Trump from deporting suspected Tren de Aragua gang members under the Alien Enemies Act &#8220;until further order of this Court.&#8221;</p>

Stephen Miller: White House ‘Actively Looking At’ Suspending Habeas Corpus Over Border ‘Invasion’

<p>The &#8220;Big Three&#8221; U.S. car companies are disappointed in President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/both-countries-will-become-stronger-trumps-trade-deal-will-give-u-s-more-access-to-u-k-economy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trade agreement</a> with the United Kingdom, claiming that the deal will harm &#8220;American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers.&#8221;</p>
<p>The American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC), which represents Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, released a <a href="https://www.americanautomakers.org/american-automakers-statement-trump-administrations-united-kingdom-trade-announcement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Thursday criticizing Trump&#8217;s trade deal with Britain shortly after the agreement was announced in the Oval Office. Trump and his trade officials hailed the deal as a major victory for the president&#8217;s economic agenda, but U.S. car manufacturers argue that it prioritizes the United Kingdom &#8220;ahead of our North American partners.&#8221;</p>
<p>Ford, GM, and Stellantis, which make some of their vehicles in Canada and Mexico, are upset that U.K. car companies will only pay a 10% tariff to export to the U.S. market while the American automakers continue to face a 25% tariff for vehicles manufactured outside of the country.</p>
<p>“The U.S. automotive industry is highly integrated with Canada and Mexico; the same is not true for the U.S. and UK. We are disappointed that the administration prioritized the UK ahead of our North American partners,&#8221; said Matt Blunt, the former Missouri GOP governor who is now the AAPC president. &#8220;Under this deal, it will now be cheaper to import a UK vehicle with very little U.S. content than a USMCA compliant vehicle from Mexico or Canada that is half American parts. This hurts American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers.&#8221;</p>
<p>In a statement to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/08/business/us-automakers-furious-at-trumps-trade-deal-with-uk-and-heres-why/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the New York Post</a> on Friday, the White House responded to the automakers&#8217; statement, defending the deal with the United Kingdom.</p>
<p>&#8220;No president has taken a greater personal interest in reviving the American auto industry than President Trump. The Trump administration is working hand-in-glove with automakers to reshore manufacturing that is critical to our national and economic security, including with custom-tailored tariff relief and deregulatory policies,&#8221; said White House spokesman Kush Desai.</p>
<p>Trump, through his 25% tariff on auto imports, has been pushing American auto manufacturers to bring manufacturing back to the United States from Canada and Mexico. Last month, the president agreed to provide some tariff relief to U.S. car companies, preventing additional tariffs from stacking on top of each other in exchange for the companies&#8217; commitments to furthering their domestic production. The &#8220;Big Three&#8221; automakers are now concerned that foreign competition from the United Kingdom will get the upper hand following Trump&#8217;s trade deal.</p>
<p>Trump&#8217;s agreement with the United Kingdom will allow the country to export up to 100,000 cars to the United States for a 10% tariff, a decrease from the president&#8217;s 25% duty on other foreign auto imports. In 2024, nearly 16 million total vehicles were sold in the United States. Some of the top-selling British brands include Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Range Rover. Rolls-Royce engines will also be allowed to come into the United States tariff-free.</p>
<p>&#8220;This historic deal delivers for British business and British workers, protecting thousands of British jobs in key sectors including car manufacturing and steel,&#8221; British Prime Minister Keir Starmer <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp92r2kvk74o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>
<p>U.K. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp92r2kvk74o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BBC</a> that the trade deal came just in time as the country was close to losing thousands of auto manufacturing jobs due to Trump&#8217;s tariffs.</p>
<p>&#8220;This was very serious,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It would have meant people would have lost their jobs without this breakthrough.&#8221;</p>
<p>The AAPC added that it hopes &#8220;this preferential access for UK vehicles over North American ones does not set a precedent for future negotiations with Asian and European competitors.&#8221;</p>

‘This Hurts American Automakers’: ‘Big Three’ U.S. Car Companies Rip Trump’s U.K Trade Deal

<p>Authorities have charged the father of the 15-year-old shooter who killed two people and injured six others at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, in December, police said on Thursday.</p>
<p>Jeffrey Rupnow, 42, is accused of giving his daughter access to the pistols that she used in her attack, ABC News <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/father-15-year-killed-2-wisconsin-religious-school-121611692" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The teenage female shooter, who just four months prior had started attending Abundant Life, opened fire in a study hall on December 16, killing teacher Erin Michelle West and 14-year-old student Rubi Bergara. The shooter, who will not be named per Daily Wire policy, then turned the gun on herself and was found dead by responding officers.</p>
<p>Rupnow faces two counts of intentionally giving a dangerous weapon to a person under 18, causing death, and contributing to the delinquency of a child, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/09/us-news/father-of-15-year-old-wisconsin-school-shooter-natalie-rupnow-faces-felony-charges/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.</p>
<p>The criminal complaint against Rupnow says that his daughter spiraled after her parents divorced, expressing a hatred of humanity, according to ABC News. Court records showed that the shooter was in therapy over her troubled home life and would often bounce back and forth between her mother and father. Her parents divorced in 2014, remarried in 2017, divorced again in 2020, and then remarried for a second time, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/12/17/madison-wisconsin-school-shooter-natalie-rupnow/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. By April 2021, the couple petitioned for a third divorce and were “admonished” by a judge “concerning remarriage.”</p>
<p>The criminal complaint states that Rupnow attempted to bond with his daughter through firearms. According to the complaint, Rupnow bought his daughter a 9mm pistol and a .22-caliber Sig Sauer pistol. Rupnow allegedly bought the Sig Sauer pistol for Christmas in 2023, when she would have been just 14 years old.</p>
<p>The father told investigators that following the divorce, his daughter started cutting herself so badly that he had to lock up all the knives in his home. After taking her shooting with him on a friend&#8217;s property to connect with her, Rupnow told investigators he was stunned at how quickly her interest in guns &#8220;snow balled.&#8221;</p>
<p>Rupnow kept the guns he got for his daughter in a gun safe, but gave her the combination to open it. Just ten days before the deadly attack on the Christian school, Rupnow texted a friend that his daughter would shoot him if he left “the fun safe open right now,&#8221; according to the complaint. The father expressed regret to investigators about teaching his daughter about firearms and urged police to encourage people to change the combination on their gun safes frequently.</p>
<p>Investigators discovered a six-page manifesto in the shooter&#8217;s bedroom in her father&#8217;s house, along with maps of the school and a schedule of how she would carry out the attack. In her manifesto, which was titled &#8220;War Against Humanity,&#8221; the shooter wrote that she hated people who don&#8217;t care and &#8220;smoke their lungs out with weed or drink as much as they can like my own father,&#8221; ABC News reported.</p>
<p>The felony charges against Rupnow continue a new practice of prosecutors going after the parents of mass shooters. Last year, both parents of the Oxford, Michigan, high school shooter were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/parents-of-michigan-school-shooter-sentenced" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> of involuntary manslaughter, becoming the first parents convicted of crimes connected to their child carrying out a mass shooting. The father of a 14-year-old boy who opened fire and killed four people at a high school in Georgia last year also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/father-of-suspected-georgia-school-shooter-charged-with-murder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faces</a> second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges.</p>

Father Of 15-Year-Old Wisconsin Christian School Shooter Hit With Felony Charges

<p>President Donald Trump said on Friday that a tax increase on the highest income earners in the country would be &#8220;OK&#8221; with him, but warned that the move could be politically damaging to Republicans.</p>
<p>Trump made the comment after Punchbowl News <a href="https://x.com/JakeSherman/status/1920525154024558934" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Thursday that the president was pushing House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to include tax increases on the rich in Trump&#8217;s &#8220;big, beautiful bill.&#8221; According to <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5290814-trump-tax-hike-wealthy-gop-bill/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill</a>, which cited three sources, the White House would allow Trump&#8217;s marginal income tax cut to expire for the wealthiest Americans while keeping tax breaks for lower income brackets.</p>
<p>&#8220;The problem with even a &#8216;TINY&#8217; tax increase for the RICH, which I and all others would graciously accept in order to help the lower and middle income workers, is that the Radical Left Democrat Lunatics would go around screaming, “Read my lips,” the fabled Quote by George Bush the Elder that is said to have cost him the Election,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114477701321152097" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on Truth Social.</p>

<p>Trump&#8217;s reference to former President George H.W. Bush goes back to when Bush compromised with Congressional Democrats to increase several existing taxes after famously promising on the campaign trail, &#8220;Read my lips: no new taxes.&#8221; In the 1992 election cycle, Bill Clinton <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1992/08/22/us/1992-campaign-democrats-clinton-says-bush-untrustworthy-jobs-taxes.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">slammed</a> Bush over the quote, saying he broke an election promise. Clinton went on to defeat Bush in the 1992 election, as independent candidate Ross Perot garnered 18.9% of the vote.</p>
<p>Trump&#8217;s pitch to raise taxes on the wealthy would reportedly only apply to those making more than $2.5 million a year for single filers or $5 million for joint filers. That would be substantially higher than the top tax bracket for 2024, which applied to incomes above $609,351 for single filers and $731,201 for joint filers. The tax increase on the wealthiest Americans would revert from the current 37% rate to the 39.6% rate that was in effect before Trump&#8217;s 2017 tax cuts, according to Punchbowl News.</p>
<p>Conservatives and Congressional Republicans, including some of Trump&#8217;s closest allies, have blasted the idea of raising taxes on the wealthy.</p>
<p>&#8220;That would be a tax on every small business, every job creator. And you know what? That’s what Kamala Harris campaigned on,&#8221; Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) <a href="https://x.com/johnkartch/status/1920484997850402906" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during a Thursday appearance on CNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Squawk Box.&#8221; &#8220;And I gotta say, the folks in the administration, they&#8217;ve decided to call themselves populists, but just being a Democrat and wanting higher taxes and more regulation, that&#8217;s not populist. That&#8217;s embracing the failed ideas of Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden.&#8221;</p>
<p>Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, <a href="https://x.com/GroverNorquist/status/1920246547310416325" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> on Wednesday, &#8220;President Trump ran on making all the tax rates reductions permanent. Kamala Harris ran on letting the top income tax rates reductions passed by Trump to spring back to the higher pre-Trump/Obama tax rate. All tax rate increases damage economic growth and kill jobs by disincentivizing work and investment.&#8221;</p>
<p>Trump media allies like Fox Business commentator Larry Kudlow and Fox News host Sean Hannity also slammed the idea in April. Kudlow <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/video/6371372375112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it was &#8220;among the top three dumbest things I’ve ever heard,&#8221; while Hannity <a href="https://x.com/johnkartch/status/1912294066458702132" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a>, &#8220;It seems to go against everything Donald Trump has ever believed in.&#8221;</p>

Trump Takes Shock Stance On Taxing Rich, Warns GOP Against Adopting It

<p>President Donald Trump, joined by representatives from the United Kingdom in the Oval Office, announced on Thursday that the two countries will cut back on trade barriers in the first major trade deal for the president.</p>
<p>The agreement will allow the United States to gain increased market access in the United Kingdom — the sixth-largest economy in the world — for billions of dollars worth of American exports, according to Trump. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who spoke to the president over the phone, told Trump he is &#8220;really pleased&#8221; with the deal between the two allies. The final details are still being worked out, but Trump will keep some tariffs in place on British imports. The president emphasized that the deal would boost both countries&#8217; industrial bases and help protect steel.</p>
<p>&#8220;Both countries have agreed that economic security is national security and will be working together as allies to ensure that we have a strong industrial base and appropriate export controls and protections for key technologies and industries like steel,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;Steel was a big factor. Both countries will become stronger with steel.&#8221;</p>
<p>Shortly after announcing the deal, President Trump posted a chart on social media, showing that Britain&#8217;s tariffs on U.S. goods will drop to 1.8% while &#8220;reciprocal tariffs&#8221; on the United Kingdom will remain at 10%. Trump said other nations should not view the 10% tariff on Britain as a template for how the administration will negotiate future deals.</p>

<p>Asked by Daily Wire White House Reporter Mary Margaret Olohan if the trade deal includes any assurances from Britain to protect free speech and freedom of religion, Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the agreement is solely focused on the economy.</p>
<p>Lutnick added that the deal will also allow the United Kingdom to export up to 100,000 vehicles to the United States for a 10% tariff. Lutnick said the agreement will enable the U.K. to maintain access to the U.S. market while also protecting American jobs. The United States will be able to gain more access to U.K. markets to sell agricultural products such as “ethanol, beef, [and] machinery,&#8221; according to Lutnick. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the deal will &#8220;exponentially increase our beef exports&#8221; to the United Kingdom.</p>
<p>The United Kingdom will also be allowed to export Rolls-Royce engines and airplane parts to the United States tariff-free, and Britain will purchase $10 billion worth of Boeing airplanes from the United States, Lutnick added.</p>
<p>Starmer praised Trump and his trade team for working out the trade deal.</p>
<p>&#8220;Really important deal,&#8221; Starmer said. &#8220;This is going to boost trade between and across our countries. It&#8217;s not only going to protect jobs, but create jobs, opening market access.&#8221;</p>
<p>The deal is a significant step for the Trump administration as it seeks to negotiate new trade agreements with dozens of countries worldwide following the president&#8217;s &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; tariffs rollout last month.</p>

<p>The European Commission unveiled two steps it would take against the United States, including a higher tariff on more than $100 billion worth of U.S. goods and unleashing a trade dispute against the United States with the World Trade Organization, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/08/world/europe/eu-retaliatory-tariffs-trump-us.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The European Union announced its retaliation plan as President Donald Trump said he will agree to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-announce-major-trade-deal-with-united-kingdom?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=Trump+To+Announce+%E2%80%98Major+Trade+Deal%E2%80%99+With+United+Kingdom" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;major deal</a>&#8221; with the United Kingdom on Thursday.</p>
<p>“We believe there are good deals to be made for the benefit of consumers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “At the same time, we continue preparing for all possibilities, and the consultation launched today will help guide us in this necessary work.”</p>
<p>The European Union says American goods on the <a href="///Users/zachjewell/Downloads/Information%20gathering_list%20of%20products%20for%20consultation_EU%20common%20commercial%20policy%20measures%20on%20imports%20of%20goods%20from%20the%20US.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">list</a> that could be hit with an additional tariff include a wide range of products from cars and airplanes to grain and meat. The bloc is also considering a restriction on exports of scrap steel and chemical products. The list is not final, and the European Commission will review feedback on it before providing a final list over the summer, according to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/05/08/eu-trump-tariffs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Axios</a>.</p>
<p>Trump slapped a 20% tariff on the European Union in his &#8220;Liberation Day&#8221; tariff rollout last month. The bloc <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/10/eu-suspends-retaliatory-tariffs-us-goods-trump-von-der-leyen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retaliated</a>, hitting U.S. goods with a 25% duty, but after Trump announced he would lower tariffs to 10% across the board for most countries, the European Union suspended its retaliatory action for 90 days. Trump&#8217;s 25% tariff on aluminum and steel products and car imports remains in effect.</p>
<p>While Trump did not reveal any details of the upcoming deal with the United Kingdom, he said the agreement &#8220;is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come.&#8221; A British official also <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/07/business/economy/trump-trade-britain.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times that the deal would benefit both countries, but did not offer specifics.</p>
<p>The agreement with the United Kingdom could give the European Union a better hint at how to negotiate with the Trump administration in the coming weeks. Trump said earlier this week that his administration “could sign 25 deals right now,” but added that it’s up to other countries “to sign deals with us.”</p>
