Former Bernie Spox Drops #BelieveAllWomen Like A Hot Potato When Victims Are Jews
Demonstrators gather during a "#metoo unless you are a Jew" protest outside of United Nations headquarters in New York City on December 4, 2023. Israeli women and legal activists have accused international rights groups of maintaining a conspiracy of silence over alleged rapes and other sexual crimes committed by Hamas militants during the October 7 attacks. In addition to investigating the bloodshed, Israeli police say they have been exploring evidence of sexual violence, ranging from alleged gang rape to post-mortem mutilation. A former spokesperson for Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) dropped her calls to #BelieveAllWomen when she was confronted with reports that Israeli women had been brutally raped by Hamas terrorists during the October 7 massacre.

Briahna Joy Gray, who served as national press secretary for the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign, complained that Israel was not being pressed to provide more evidence of the rapes that had been reported.

“‘Believe all women’ was always an absurd overreach: woman [sic] should be heard, claims should be investigated, but evidence is required. The same is true of the allegations out of Israel. But also, this isn’t a ‘believe women’ scenario bc no female victims have offered testimony,” she posted.

She then doubled down, saying that “Zionists” were controlling the reports and blamed Israel for failing to collect rape kits while they were sorting through the remains of the more than 1,200 who were killed on October 7 — many of whom were women and children, and some of whom were so severely burned that their bodies were unrecognizable. She also suggested that eyewitness testimony of the rapes was unreliable because the witnesses were men.

“Zionists are asking that we believe the uncorroborated eyewitness account of *men* who describe alleged rape victims in odd, fetishistic terms. Shame on Israel for not seriously investigating claims of rape and collecting rape kits,” she said.

Amid backlash for her comments, Gray asserted that she had always felt the phrase was too reductive, arguing instead that “‘Support victims’ or ‘sincerely consider diverse perspectives’ is closer to what we want than ‘believe women’ or ‘trust black women.'”

Gray was responding to a video clip posted by Newsweek’s Batya Unger-Sargon, who referenced attempts by so-called progressive women to downplay or even ignore the reports of rape coming out of Israel.

“For years, certain people demanded we replace due process with ‘Believe all women,'” she said. “These same people, when presented with evidence of the mass rape of Israeli women, now demand ‘context.’ Believe all women became don’t believe the confessions of rapists — if their victims are Jews.”

For those who were still demanding evidence of the reported rapes, conservative pundit @AGHamilton29 provided a list detailing just a small fraction of the evidence showing that Hamas was using rape and sexual violence as a weapon to terrorize and brutalize Israeli women.
