Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) used technical difficulties to his advantage, saying that he and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk “broke the internet” when his 2024 presidential campaign announcement quickly overwhelmed Twitter Spaces — but it appears that the pair also broke actor John Cusack.
The “Grosse Pointe Blank” star lashed out at Musk and DeSantis in a lengthy tweet claiming that the Twitter owner had teamed up with the Florida governor out of a desire to “own” a president.
Cusack began by insinuating that Texas billionaire Harlan Crow had “bought” Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, which he then argued had prompted Musk to act out of jealousy.

“So a nazi collecting Texan freak billionaire who has a garden of evil statues to scare his grandkids — has bought himself a Supreme Court judge — and that feisty, white supremisct [sic], ever competitive, not to be out Douche-bagged Egor Mush decides — I must buy myself a president!” Cusack began.
“And so a whisky balled toad of a man A fascist trump mini me has literally the worst presidential announcement since mid 80s Lyndon LaRouche on a social media platform Mush is obliterating in real time — turning into a Nazi website where children look up pet snuff films — cats in blenders — and he’s so vain and so dumb and so incompetent that he can’t handle the bandwidth for a glorified conference call — and everything I just said is just reportage,” Cusack continued, concluding with one last jab: “Oh — and he ‘s supposed to be a genius …”
Critics were quick to respond, suggesting that Cusack had gone around the bend and saying that his tweet was “proof that actors are nothing without writers.”
“John Cusack has lost his grip on reality. But it does give you insight into the hive-mind of the American Marxist Left. Best of luck with this insanity,” Mark Meckler tweeted.
“Who broke John Cusack?” another asked, and actor Dean Cain shared the rambling tweet “for posterity.”

The “Say Anything” star went on to respond to former Vox writer Aaron Rupar, who noted that Musk had made a number of appearances in a video being promoted by the DeSantis campaign, asserting that Musk had “bought a governor.”
