Taylor Hawkins, drummer of the band Foo Fighters who died over the weekend at the age of 50, reportedly had a heart that weighed twice what the heart of an average male his age should weigh.
“Forensic experts are said to have discovered it weighed ‘at least 600 grams’, double the average of 300 to 350 grams, during an examination following his shock death at a luxury hotel in Colombian capital Bogota on Friday,” the Daily Mail reported.
Colombia’s attorney general announced over the weekend that numerous substances were found in Hawkins’ system at the time of his death Friday evening, The Daily Wire previously reported.
“Preliminary results of the urine toxicology test indicate the presence of 10 different substances: THX (Marijuana), tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids, among others,” the attorney general said in a statement. “The National Institute of Forensic Medicine continues to conduct the necessary medical studies to ascertain the cause of death.”
The Mail reported that investigators concluded Hawkins died due to a “cardiovascular collapse.”
The Foo Fighters released a statement regarding Hawkins, who died while on tour with the rock band.
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band said. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Born Oliver Taylor Hawkins in Fort Worth Texas in 1972, Hawkins was raised in Laguna Beach, California. He played in the small Southern California band Sylvia before landing his first major gig as a drummer for Canadian singer Sass Jordan.
When he spent two years in the mid-1990s drumming for Morrissette, he was inspired primarily by the playing of Jane’s Addiction’s Stephen Perkins.
The outlet also noted that Hawkins was the second-most recognizable member of the band behind founder and frontman Dave Grohl. The two appeared in interviews together and featured prominently in the band’s videos. Most recently, Hawkins starred in the bands’ horror-comedy film, “Studio 666.” The film, Fox reported, is about “a demonic force in a house the band is staying in seizes Grohl and makes him murderous.”
Grohl and Hawkins were reportedly very close, with Grohl writing in his 2021 book, “The Storyteller” that Hawkins was his “brother from another mother, my best friend, a man for whom I would take a bullet.”
