Tuesday, the Jupiter Police Department brought simple battery charges against Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski for manhandling ex-Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields. Now, other female media members are taking action in an attempt to pressure Trump to fire Lewandowski for his “inexcusable” behavior.
A letter published Wednesday signed by sixteen female reporters — including TheBlaze TV host Dana Loesch (who spearheaded the effort), Breitbart News’ Mary Chastain, political analyst Mary Katherine Ham, and AEI’s Christina Hoff Sommers — calls for the immediate removal of Lewandowski.
“The press is to have an adversarial, yet civil, approach to those in, or running for, elected office,” it reads. “Never in this line of work is it acceptable to respond to reasonable and legitimate questioning with use of physical force. The Trump campaign has stated that Lewandowski will not be fired even if convicted, however unlike the Trump campaign, we believe in making a statement on the record to clearly highlight the difference between right and wrong.”
Despite surveillance footage released Tuesday by the Jupiter Police Department confirming Fields’ claims, the Trump campaign remains defiant, declaring that Lewandowski is “absolutely innocent” and continuing to smear Fields. Trump’s most recent tactic: he’s threatening to counter-sue Fields for supposedly assaulting him first.
The story took another turn Wednesday. Fields told TheBlaze that she has felt compelled to temporarily move out of her D.C.-area apartment after Fox News and BuzzFeed accidentally published her home address and phone number when they posted the JPD charges against Lewandowski. As Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro has explained to the press, Fields never wanted the incident to blow up but felt compelled to defend herself after the Trump campaign sought to discredit her.
