After a series of delays, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) says she is unsure if Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual assault accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, will testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee come Thursday.
Ford has alleged that SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a pool party 36 years ago. Kavanaugh adamantly denies her claims, as does another man Ford says played a role in the assault; two other potential witnesses Ford named — including a “longtime friend” of Ford’s — have denied any knowledge of the alleged incident or party.
Ford’s legal team of Democratic activists has imposed a series of conditions on her appearance. Now, despite being granted a Thursday hearing by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, already delayed multiple days, reports indicate she may not show up due to Grassley hiring a female prosecutor of sex crimes to question her.
When Feinstein was asked if Ford will be MIA come Thursday, the senator said she has “no way of knowing.”
Feinstein was responding to a letter sent by Ford’s attorney to Grassley on Monday evening alleging it was unfair to have an independent counsel question Ford.
“In our view, the hiring of an unnamed ‘experienced sex crimes prosecutor’ as Mr. Davis described in his email, is contrary to the Majority’s repeated emphasis on the need for the Senate and this Committee’s members to fulfill their constitutional obligations,” wrote lawyer Michael Bromwich. “It is also inconsistent with your stated wish to avoid a ‘circus,’ as well as Dr. Blasey Ford’s repeated requests through counsel that senators conduct the questioning. This is not a criminal trial for which the involvement of an experienced sex crimes prosecutor would be appropriate.”
On the same day, “Creepy Porn Lawyer” Michael Avenatti announced that his “very credible” victim accusing Kavanaugh of running a “gang rape ring” may also not publicly come forward.
“Let me be clear: We will disclose the client’s name and accusations only when SHE is ready and we have adequate security measures in place. And not a moment before that,” Avenatti wrote. “It is her choice and hers alone as to when to surface bc it is her life. We expect it within the next 36 hrs.”
