Lefty network MS Now incorrectly reported Wednesday that FBI Director Kash Patel had landed in Russia — while the FBI said he was at Liberty University in Virginia.
Reporter Ken Dilanian later corrected the report and expressed regret.
“We’ve since learned that Patel did not, in fact, land in Russia today and remains in the U.S.,” he said. “The timing of any potential trip remains unclear. Again, we regret this error and we are transparent about when we make errors.”
The FBI’s Rapid Response team shared an X post that placed the MS Now clip side by side with a video of Patel speaking to a group of law students at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Patel was there with Rep. John McGuire (R-VA) for a roundtable discussion with law students and local law enforcement.
“Left: MS Now reports two sources familiar say Kash Patel just landed in Russia. Right: Here’s where Kash Patel actually is … Liberty U, doing a law enforcement appreciation event MS Now’s ‘sources’ are ‘familiar’ with NOTHING!” the caption read.

“Facts over clickbait,” Patel replied to that post.
McGuire posted photos from the event, adding, “Today, I was proud to welcome @FBIDirectorKash to Lynchburg for a roundtable discussion I hosted with local law enforcement and students from Liberty University School of Law.”
“Director Patel and I are committed to protecting victims, not criminals,” McGuire continued. “We want the next generation to understand that our laws are meant to be enforced.”

We would not have a country without our men and women in uniform, and we are committed to ensuring they have the resources they need to protect and serve.

Patel fired back as well, saying that MS Now owed the men and women of the FBI — and the rest of the American people — an apology.
“MS NOW just reported I had ‘landed in Russia’ for meetings with the FSB. The same outlet constantly tells lies about this FBI and law enforcement’s historic achievements in safeguarding the American people,” Patel said.
He cited arrest figures, captures of wanted fugitives, and fentanyl seizures as evidence of the bureau’s work under his leadership.
“This is no accident. It is due to the relentless work of this FBI and all of our state, local, and tribal partners,” he continued, saying that MS Now owed “an apology to this FBI, the men and women of law enforcement, and to the American people.”
MS Now first aired the report earlier Wednesday, with anchor Peter Alexander citing “two people familiar with the matter.” Dilanian, who sourced the story, added: “We don’t know what Kash Patel is doing in Russia. And that’s one of the things that’s concerning our FBI sources — they don’t know either.”
Politico reported in July that Patel was expected to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg on October 14-15.
