Like he is once again channeling Malcolm X, two-time Oscar-winner Denzel Washington dropped this truth bomb on the American mainstream media Wednesday, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed.”
One of the effects of “too much information,” the 61-year-old Oscar winner says, is “The need to be first, not even to be true anymore.”
“So what a responsibility you all have — to tell the truth,” Washington exclaimed to the pack of reporters gathered on the red carpet.
“In our society, now it’s just first — who cares, get it out there. We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who we destroy. We don’t care if it’s true,” Washington continued.
“Just say it, sell it. Anything you practice you’ll get good at — including BS.”
The Hill reports that Washington made the remarks to a “pack of reporters” at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, where he premiered his latest film “Fences,” which is already being touted as an Oscar contender. Washington both stars and directs. Should he win the Oscar for Best Director, Washington would be the first black director to do so. Think about that. It is 2016 and leftwing Hollywood has yet to hand a black director an Oscar. Anyway…
What is so juicy about Washington’s thoughtful and true remarks is that he is refusing to go along with the national media’s chosen Narrative about Fake News. Rather than take the opportunity to blast New Media or Fox News, rather than defend the likes of the Washington Post or CNN, Washington chose to blast “newspapers” as the misinformers.
Washington himself became part of the Fake News world when it was falsely reported that he had endorsed Donald Trump. Nevertheless, it was the mainstream media’s dangerous and relentless Fake Newsing that was on the actor’s mind, not some dumb Internet meme.
Washington has always been a rarity in Hollywood: his own man. Not only is he one of only a handful of true movie stars, the rare actor who can still open a movie thanks to earning the public’s goodwill, but he is also an unapologetic and devout Christian, a star who uses his clout to bring respectful Christian themes and stories to the big screen.
I once went to a Lakers game with Denzel. Okay, he was way over on the other side of the court, but that allows me to say “I was at a Lakers game with Denzel.”
