WASHINGTON— The White House Fraud Task Force is canceling handouts for those who were double-dipping on government healthcare payouts under the Biden administration, The Daily Wire can first report.

The Fraud Task Force will announce Wednesday morning that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has canceled Obamacare subsidies for 189,000 people who also had either Medicare or Medicaid, or were deceased.

Under the Biden administration, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services stopped checking for duplicate Medicaid and Obamacare enrollment between 2021 and 2024, a White House official said. The Trump White House has once again begun the process, called Periodic Data Matching, and used it to uncover the latest fraud.

When President Trump took office, officials found backlogs of 551,000 instances of duplicate Medicaid and Obamacare enrollment, that official shared, noting that the administration saved almost $4.4 billion in 2025 through such efforts.

The latest move will save taxpayers over $1.5 billion on an annual basis, and CMS is following a rigorous process to make sure that individuals will not lose their insurance coverage as the administration cancels duplicative coverage.

“When it comes to program integrity, the Biden Administration was sleeping on the job,” CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz told The Daily Wire. “They paused looking for duplicate Medicaid and Obamacare coverage for four years, creating a backlog of hundreds of thousands of duplicate enrollments.”

“We’ve already saved nearly $6 billion, and we will continue to work hard to restore taxpayers’ confidence that the programs they fund are spending their hard-earned dollars wisely and efficiently,” Oz added.

Under the current protocol, if a person’s records suggest that they have duplicate coverage, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services contacts that person and asks whether they do have that duplicate coverage. If the individual says that they don’t have duplicate coverage within 30 days, CMS won’t end their subsidies.

If, however, that person fails to respond, CMS will cancel their subsidies, and if they are on Medicare, CMS will also cancel that coverage, a White House official explained. CMS will follow a similar protocol for people who are deceased as well.

Fraudulent dual enrollment in Obamacare along with Medicare or Medicaid often occurs when a person lies about their income to secure low-cost private insurance alongside their government healthcare, or as part of fraud schemes committed by insurance brokers who steal the information of low-income Americans to sign them up for insurance without their knowledge.

Under the Biden administration, the “Periodic Data Matching” process had been paused even while Medicaid rolls were skyrocketing. A White House official called this “selective ignorance,” noting that from day one, the Trump administration resumed the verification process.

Last month, the fraud task force took action to shut down 750,000 Obamacare enrollments that it identified as fraudulent, an action that included a crackdown on both insurance brokers and agents who the White House suspects of abusing the program.

“We’re actually making sure that people receiving Obamacare subsidies are actually entitled to receive them,” Vice President JD Vance said at a press conference on the item. “Amazingly, we weren’t doing that before.”
