President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are set to meet again on Sunday — this time at Mar-a-Lago — in hopes of moving closer to a finalized peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.

Zelensky confirmed in an early morning post on Friday that he would be meeting with Trump “in the near future,” and Ukrainian officials said the meeting was scheduled for Sunday, Axios reported. A White House official confirmed to the New York Post on Friday morning that the meeting will take place at Trump’s massive Florida estate, where he is expected to remain until January 4.

“We are not losing a single day. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level – with President Trump in the near future. A lot can be decided before the New Year. Glory to Ukraine!” said Zelensky.

The meeting signals that the Trump administration remains optimistic that an agreement could be close. Zelensky spoke over the phone with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner on Christmas Day, with a U.S. official saying that the administration has “made more progress in the last two weeks than the last year.”

After his call with Witkoff and Kushner, Zelensky said he was hopeful that the “Christmas understandings and the ideas we discussed will prove useful.”

“We went into many details; there are good ideas, which we discussed. We have some new ideas in terms of formats, meetings, and, of course, timing on how to bring a real peace closer,” Zelensky said.

“We are truly working 24/7 to bring closer the end of this brutal Russian war against Ukraine and to ensure that all documents and steps are realistic, effective, and reliable,” he added.

The Trump administration recently proposed a 28-point peace plan in another effort to bring an end to the war that is nearing the four-year mark. Zelensky has suggested that Ukraine agrees with some of the details of the plan, while adding that he wants to negotiate on other points. Under the plan, the Ukraine would agree to withdraw its troops from some of the disputed areas in Eastern Ukraine, which would become a demilitarized “free economic zone.” In return, the United States and Europe would give Ukraine security guarantees.

Russia, however, seems intent on taking control of all of the Donbas region. Another point of the peace proposal that has caused negotiations to stall is who will control of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
