Dr. Dre demanded Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) take down a video on Twitter that he said used one of his songs without permission.
Greene was reportedly locked out of her account after the Twitter video containing the song was flagged on the platform for copyright violations.
āWe write you on behalf of our client, Andre Young p/k/a Dr. Dre, composer and performer of the hit song āStill D.R.E.,'ā an attorney for Dre said in a letter to Greene. āYou are wrongfully exploiting this work through the various social media outlets to promote your divisive and hateful political agenda.ā
Greene posted the instrumental version of the song, which means the lyrics were stripped out of the music.
Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, āhas not, and will never, grant you permission to broadcast or disseminate any of his music,ā the letter said. āThe use of āStill D.R.E.ā without permission constitutes copyright infringement in violation of 17 U.S.C. 501.ā
āOne might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country,ā the letter continued. āItās possible, though, that laws governing intellectual property are a little too arcane and insufficiently populist for you to really have spent much time on. Weāre writing because we think an actual lawmaker should be making laws not breaking laws, especially those embodied in the constitution by the founding fathers.ā
The letter demanded that Greene respond by the end of business on Wednesday and confirm that she complied with their demand to take the song down.
Greene fired back at Dre in a statement to TMZ, blasting the subject matter of Dreās music.
āWhile I appreciate the creative chord progression, I would never play your words of violence against women and police officers, and your glorification of the thug life and drugs,ā Greene said.
Greene posted a screenshot of her statement with the caption, āThe next episode,ā which is a troll on Dre since one of his top songs of all-time is āThe Next Episode.ā
