As her return to House Speaker remains in doubt, Nancy Pelosi is pulling out all the steps to reassure her base she’s just as crazy as they are. Now, she’s thanking race hustler Al Sharpton for the Democrats taking back the House in this past mid-term election.
According to Fox News, Pelosi credited Sharpton for the victory in November while speaking at an event hosted by his civil rights organization, the National Action Network Legislative & Policy Conference. She began by first promising that the Democratic agenda under her will heal and unify the country.
“We’re going to be visionary, we’re going to be unifying, we’re going to be healing, we’re going to be transparent in how we do this. We’re going to be respectful of other views,” Pelosi said. “But we’re going to try to find our common ground where we can. We have a responsibility to do that but where we can’t, stand our ground like a rock. That’s what Thomas Jefferson advised us to do.”
Pelosi then added that people from all over have been sending her messages of thanks for “saving the country.”
“Thank you for helping take back America,” she said. “People all over the place are calling me, writing, in airports, here and there, saying, ‘Thank you for saving America.’ I give those thanks to you. Thank you for saving America. Reverend Sharpton, thank you for saving America.”
Appearing on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday, CRTV host Michelle Malkin noted the oddity of Pelosi crediting Sharpton for the mid-term victory. “Who knew that the midterms were a referendum on Al Sharpton?” Malkin said, adding Pelosi’s comments were “calculated” for the purpose of saving her speakership, which will undoubtedly require support from the Congressional Black Caucus.
“This is what it’s really about. It is the worst kind of pandering from Nancy Pelosi,” noted Malkin.
The question for Pelosi is: Will it work? At this point, her speakership is poised somewhere between 8 and 14 votes depending on where the Democratic majority falls in the coming weeks as more votes in certain districts are counted. From The Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow:
Democrats have a slim majority in the House of Representatives, and thus far it has been all but assumed that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) would return to her position as House Speaker.
But that might not be as set in stone as many would assume. Ten Democrat congressmen — including incumbents and newly elected members — told Politico they would vote against Pelosi for House Speaker. Eight sitting members or their offices told Politico on Thursday they would vote against Pelosi, while two newly elected members had said the same on Tuesday.
Democrats picked up 31 seats so far in the midterm election, with more yet to be determined. Their majority is just eight seats right now, meaning that’s all the votes Pelosi could lose and still become Speaker with the necessary 218 votes. Democrats believe they’ll end up with another six seats once more races are called, allowing Pelosi to lose the votes of 14 members.
While the establishment types certainly support Pelosi, the up-and-coming progressive stars like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez do not, and have made it their first mission to oust Pelosi from her leadership position. Time will tell if they succeed; Republicans better hope they don’t, because Nancy Pelosi and the many crazy things she says are the best chances they’ll ever have of getting back in power.
