<p>Dozens of House Democrats are calling for Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) to have her committee assignments stripped from her for a comment she has since apologized for concerning Democratic Rep. Omar (D-MN).</p>
<p>&#8220;In a letter released Wednesday, five House Democratic caucus chairs — Reps. Pramila Jayapal, Joyce Beatty, Judy Chu, David Cicilline, and Raul Ruiz — led the call for Boebert to face &#8216;consequences&#8217; for her anti-Muslim rhetoric,&#8221; Business Insider <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dozens-house-democrats-lauren-boebert-committee-assignments-stripped-2021-12">reported</a> this week.</p>
<p>“Today, we are calling for Representative Boebert to be removed from her committee assignments,&#8221; the letter reads. &#8220;We stand with Representative Omar and millions of Muslims across the country who deserve better and are looking to their elected leadership to condemn islamophobia at the highest levels of government.”</p>
<p>&#8220;Separately, 38 members of the House also issued a statement Thursday calling for Boebert to be removed from her committees,&#8221; the report <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dozens-house-democrats-lauren-boebert-committee-assignments-stripped-2021-12">added</a>.</p>
<p>As highlighted by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/boebert-apologizes-to-muslim-community-for-omar-remark">The Daily Wire</a> last week, Boebert during an event in her Colorado district “described an encounter with Omar in the halls of Congress as ‘not my first ‘Jihad Squad’ moment.’” Her comments were caught on <a href="https://twitter.com/patriottakes/status/1463903881553920004?s=21">video</a> and posted to Twitter.</p>
<p>Boebert tweeted a public apology via Twitter: “I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar,” she wrote. “I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.”</p>
<p>When Boebert got into contact with Omar, the Democrat allegedly hung up on her.</p>
<p>“I believe in engaging with those we disagree with respectfully, but not when that disagreement is rooted in outright bigotry and hate,” Omar said in a statement, <a href="https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/local-politics/ilhan-omar-lauren-boebert-call-anti-muslim-remarks/73-3eb5f5a2-2fdf-4cd7-876e-a337130674b7">according</a> to 9News. “To date, the Republican Party leadership has done nothing to condemn and hold their own members accountable for repeated instances of anti-Muslim hate and harassment. This is not about one hateful statement or one politician; it is about a party that has mainstreamed bigotry and hatred.”</p>
<p>Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) responded on Friday, asserted that he would not be punishing Boebert, and slamming Omar and her fellow far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for their controversial comments.</p>
<p>&#8220;Let me be very clear, this party is for anyone and everyone who craves freedom and supports religious liberty,” McCarthy stated. &#8220;Lauren Boebert, as I called her, when it came forward we talked, she apologized publicly, she apologized personally.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Did any of you raise the question when someone on their side of the aisle said I worked with the Ku Klux Klan, referring to Republicans?&#8221; the Republican slammed.</p>
<p>&#8220;Did anyone on your side of the aisle talk about when Omar said the only reason I support Israel is all about the Benjamins?&#8221; McCarthy continued, referring to Omar.</p>
<p>Notably, Omar has spewed comments widely criticized as anti-Semitic. In January 2020, the Democrat was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ilhan-omar-named-anti-semite-of-the-year">chosen</a> as the 2019 “Antisemite of the Year,&#8221; via polling from <a href="https://www.stopantisemitism.org/">StopAntisemitism.org</a>.</p>
<p>&#8220;Among Rep. Ilhan Omar’s transgressions, she perpetuated anti-Semitic tropes on Twitter to nearly two million followers and introduced an anti-Semitic resolution in Congress that promoted boycotts of the State of Israel and likened them to boycotts of Nazi Germany,&#8221; a press release from the group said. &#8220;The public’s vote highlights the growing concern among Americans about the Congresswoman’s ability to use and abuse her position of power to propagate hatred in the U.S.&#8221;</p>
<p>Just this week, Ocasio-Cortez <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/aoc-loses-it-mccarthy-working-with-his-ku-klux-klan-caucus-allows-violent-targeting-of-woc">accused</a> the GOP of having a &#8220;Ku Klux Klan caucus&#8221; and inciting threats against Democrats for their profit. She has not received any pushback from Democrats for her incendiary comments.</p>
