Former Fox News host and current U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle is in hot water with top Democrats over allegations that she misused her government position.

Democrats are seeking records and explanations from the State Department. Winning control of either chamber in November could give them greater power to pursue the allegations through hearings and subpoenas.

Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for answers following a Wall Street Journal investigation into Guilfoyle’s diplomatic activities and ties to a lobbyist for Greek construction and energy company Aktor.

Guilfoyle reportedly brought Christos Marafatsos, a lobbyist for Aktor, into meetings with foreign leaders and encouraged their governments to do business with the company. Some officials reportedly mistook Marafatsos for a U.S. Embassy employee. Federal lobbying records cited in the report show that Aktor paid him $160,000 through June 2026.

Guilfoyle also reportedly promoted Aktor and its affiliated energy projects during official engagements in southeastern Europe.

The scrutiny extends beyond her relationship with Marafatsos. At a March dinner with Greek and American officials, Guilfoyle allegedly suggested that the United States could bring about political change in countries such as Greece while discussing the impending collapse of then-Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan’s government.

“This allegation has prompted public concern in both Greece and Romania about whether the United States government interferes in the democratic governments of its NATO allies,” Meeks wrote to Rubio.

If the reports are accurate, Meeks wrote, Guilfoyle is “unfit to represent the United States abroad and should be removed from her position.” Guilfoyle’s attorney disputed the Journal’s account of the dinner exchange.

In a statement provided to the Journal by the White House, Rubio called Guilfoyle an “incredibly effective advocate for the President’s agenda” and said he and President Donald Trump “greatly value” her work.

Guilfoyle took up her post in Greece in November 2025. When announcing his pick, Trump described her as a “close friend and ally.”

“Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation,” Trump said at the time.

Guilfoyle was previously engaged to Donald Trump Jr. in 2020 and married to California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. She served as a finance chair for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign. Before joining Trump’s political operation, she worked at Fox News as a legal analyst and appeared on shows such as “Outnumbered” and “The Five.”
