The Democrats have repeatedly demonstrated that they’re willing to do or say just about anything in their efforts to wrest guns from the hands of U.S. citizens. While the new line of attack from Democrats shouldn’t surprise anybody, the stunningly shameful nature of it is egregious enough to take a moment to appreciate.

A few hours before the Senate voted down four gun control bills, Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn) — the gun control Left’s hero in the Senate last week for successfully staging a 15-hour filibuster to force a vote on new gun restrictions — accused Republicans of “sell[ing] weapons to ISIS.” That’s right, Republicans are deliberately arming radical Islamic terrorists to mow down the LGBT community and other innocent Americans.

“We’ve got to make this clear, constant case that Republicans have decided to sell weapons to ISIS.”

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn)

Murphy’s fellow liberals loved the line. One of the more notable Democrats’ joining Murphy in the “arming ISIS” accusation was vice presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who tweeted, “@ChrisMurphyCT said it right: The @SenateGOP have decided to sell weapons to ISIS.”

Murphy’s shameless dig came in an interview with the Washington Post published Monday in which he laid out the Democrats’ strategy for smearing the true enemies of America: Republicans and Constitution-respecting Americans.

“We’ve got to make this clear, constant case that Republicans have decided to sell weapons to ISIS,” Murphy told the Post. “That’s what they’ve decided to do. ISIS has decided that the assault weapon is the new airplane, and Republicans, in refusing to close the terror gap, refusing to pass bans on assault weapons, are allowing these weapons to get in the hands of potential lone-wolf attackers. We’ve got to make this connection and make it in very stark terms.”

Note that Murphy admitted in his anti-gun rant that terrorists will use any means to kill Americans, including airplanes. But while 9/11 was apparently not the planes’ fault, the devastating jihadist attack on the Pulse nightclub was, according to Murphy’s incoherent reasoning, the fault of the rifle — and thus, by extension, all Americans who recognize the misleading nature of the Left’s “assault weapon” agenda and understand the connection between the 2nd Amendment and the preservation of liberty.

The Republicans, said Murphy, are consistently choosing to protect the gun lobby “even as their own constituents have been gunned down in cold blood.”

In his comments, Murphy admitted openly that bills like the four presented Monday are just the beginning of the Democrats’ “laundry list” of gun control measures, something he said Hillary Clinton will help impose.

“Ultimately, we’ve got to build a political infrastructure on our side that rivals that of the gun lobby,” said Murphy. “I want to win some votes along the way, but everything we do needs to be in service of creating a political powerhouse that ultimately beats the NRA on the big stuff. There’s such a laundry list of things that have to change, from our perspective. We can’t get all that done unless we have a political potency that rivals the gun lobby. And we’re not there yet.”

“You know it isn’t true. But that probably doesn’t matter for your political purposes.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebr)

Dismissing Murphy and company’s gun control campaign as just a political move designed to generate soundbites for political ads, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the obvious: “No one wants terrorists to be able to buy guns or explosives.”

The problem with the bills, McConnell said Monday on the Senate floor is that the measures did not provide a constitutional means of protecting Americans from radical violence. The real focus of the fight against terror and ISIS, added McConnell, is “overseas.”

Sen. Ben Sasse also offered a response to Warren et al, shaming them for accusing Republicans of what they know full well “isn’t true.”

“This isn’t true,” he tweeted in response to Warren’s post. “You know it isn’t true. But that probably doesn’t matter for your political purposes.”

Here are more details on the four gun control measures that failed in the Senate Monday.
