Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe said during a debate against Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin that he does not believe that parents should tell schools what they should teach children.
&#8220;What we&#8217;ve seen over the course of this last 20 months is our school systems refusing to engage with parents. In fact in Fairfax County this past week, we watched parents so upset because there was such sexually explicit material in the library they had never seen, it was shocking,&#8221; Youngkin said. &#8220;And in fact, you vetoed the bill that would have informed parents that they were there. You believe school systems should tell children what to do. I believe parents should be in charge of their kids&#8217; education.&#8221;
McAuliffe responded to Youngkin&#8217;s remarks and to the recent activism by parents in pushing back on far-left woke ideologies in their kid&#8217;s schools by saying that he was &#8220;not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions.&#8221;

Youngkin responded to McAuliffe&#8217;s claim that he was &#8220;clueless&#8221; about the laws in Virginia by posting the following on social media:

McAuliffe faced widespread backlash online by numerous politicians, commentators, journalists, and others who were horrified by elitist and autocratic nature of what he said:

<li>Stephen Miller, former Trump official: &#8220;Make sure every parent in Virginia hears this before they vote.&#8221;</li>
