<p>Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was reportedly caught on camera pulling the fire alarm at the Cannon House Office Building ahead of a motion to adjourn on Saturday as Democrats sought to delay a continuing resolution vote.</p>
<p>POLITICO Congress reporter Olivia Beavers posted on X that &#8220;multiple sources&#8221; told her about Bowman&#8217;s alleged stunt. Capitol Police officers have reportedly been told to locate the Democrat.</p>

<p>House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) <a href="https://twitter.com/houseadmin/status/1708183481379872812?s=46&amp;t=FzsdcjhX_C8JJllpSjjH3A" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> &#8220;Rep Jamal Bowman pulled a fire alarm in Cannon this morning,&#8221; adding that &#8220;An investigation into why it was pulled is underway.&#8221;</p>
<p>A photo appearing to show Bowman pulling the alarm was posted to X by the Republican National Committee&#8217;s research arm.</p>

<p>Bowman&#8217;s spokeswoman Emma Simon said the representative was in a rush and didn&#8217;t know &#8220;he would trigger a building alarm.&#8221;</p>
<p>“Congressman Bowman did not realize he would trigger a building alarm as he was rushing to make an urgent vote. The Congressman regrets any confusion,&#8221; Simon <a href="https://twitter.com/andrewsolender/status/1708194455835013498" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://code.dccouncil.gov/us/dc/council/code/sections/22-1319#:~:text=(a)%20read%20as%20follows%3A,punished%20by%20a%20fine%20not" target="_blank" rel="noopener">law</a> in Washington, D.C., states, &#8220;It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to wilfully or knowingly give a false alarm of fire within the District of Columbia, and any person or persons violating the provisions of this section shall upon conviction, be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and be punished by a fine not exceeding $100 or by imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.&#8221;</p>
<p>The clock is ticking down for lawmakers in the House and the Senate to agree on an appropriations bill before the government shuts down at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. As Republicans in the House attempt to convince nearly two dozen hardliners to rally around Speaker Kevin McCarthy and pass a stopgap bill, the Senate is seeking a bipartisan bill of its own to send to the House.</p>

<p>The Senate will likely vote on a bill Saturday afternoon that would fund the government through November 17 and also allocate more than $6 billion in funding for Ukraine, The Hill reported. If passed, the appropriations bill would go to the House, but McCarthy said he will not bring a measure to the floor that includes funding for Ukraine, according to Fox News.</p>
